critique a brother's resume please + thank you

I'm about to start at a T2 consulting firm in dubai, but I'm not too bullish on the future of consulting in the Middle East (in terms of layoffs and such) so I'm looking into applying to graduate schemes in the UK for 2026 at MBB/T2 firms, but I'm also gonna be applying to a variety of corporate finance-adjacent roles and such since I'm not really set on one thing right now.

Any opinions? (YES I KNOW UK RECRUITING FOR GRADUATE SCHEMES AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IS IN THE GUTTER RIGHT NOW JUST HAVE SOME FAITH IN ME THANKS)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to focus on when refining your resume for UK graduate schemes and corporate finance roles:

1. Tailor Your Resume for Each Role

  • Highlight consulting experience at your T2 firm in Dubai, emphasizing transferable skills like problem-solving, client management, and analytical capabilities.
  • For MBB/T2 applications, focus on showcasing structured thinking, leadership, and impact-driven results.
  • For corporate finance roles, emphasize financial modeling, strategic planning, and any exposure to M&A or corporate strategy.

2. Quantify Your Achievements

  • Use metrics to demonstrate impact. For example: “Led a team to deliver a cost-saving strategy, resulting in a 15% reduction in operational expenses for a client.”
  • Highlight any measurable outcomes from your consulting projects.

3. Address International Student Challenges

  • Make it clear you’re aware of visa sponsorship requirements and are prepared to navigate them. Some firms may appreciate this proactive approach.
  • If you’ve worked in international environments or with diverse teams, emphasize this to show adaptability.

4. Structure and Formatting

  • Keep it concise: 1 page is ideal for graduate schemes.
  • Use a clean, professional format with clear sections (Education, Work Experience, Skills, etc.).
  • Avoid unnecessary details like high school achievements unless they’re extraordinary.

5. Skills Section

  • Highlight technical skills relevant to corporate finance (e.g., Excel, financial modeling, PowerPoint).
  • Include any certifications or courses (e.g., CFA Level 1, financial modeling bootcamps).

6. Extracurriculars and Leadership

  • Showcase leadership roles or extracurricular activities that demonstrate initiative and teamwork.
  • If you’ve participated in case competitions, hackathons, or similar events, include them.

7. UK-Specific Adjustments

  • Research the specific requirements of UK graduate schemes. Some may value extracurriculars and leadership more than technical skills.
  • Ensure your resume aligns with UK formatting norms (e.g., no photo, no personal details like age or marital status).

8. Faith and Optimism

  • While UK recruiting for international students is challenging, your consulting background and proactive approach can set you apart. Network aggressively, attend career fairs, and leverage LinkedIn to connect with recruiters and alumni.

If you’d like a more detailed critique or specific advice, feel free to share a draft!

looks good! would remove ww1 history tho. do you like soccer? would be good convo for UK & middle east. i would include an athletic sport thats popular internationally.

thanks! the fantasy premier league interest actually refers to a  soccer/football fantasy game that’s super popular in the UK, but I will take your suggestion about the ww1 history thing into account 🫡 (even though I do like reading about it :()

Can't imagine getting dinged because some uncultured fuckass analyst doesn't like that someone finds WW1 interesting. Sure lets talk "soccer" tho, not like the ottoman empire ever existed btw.

This dude told you to add "Soccer" even though you explicitly mentioned fantasy premier league...

Don't listen to nit-pick advice, the resume is solid, and your interests are your interests for a reason.

To be a hypocrite tho, the only thing I would suggest replacing is e-sports bc of boomers... I love myself some vidya games, but too many people would not take this as a not a good look.

😭😭😭😭 when you phrase it like that it’s hard not to agree

I think I’ll be able to get away with the “esports” thing because in my experience, interviews in the UK are usually conducted by younger analysts and associates (maybe with one partner/director interview at the end although they too are usually young-ish) as opposed to some out of touch 60 year old

Plus it’s still a pretty cool thing to be able to talk about to the people who DO end up giving a shit imo
