How to find more about firm specific company divisions

I am applying for spring weeks and want to know more about the divisions within the company for example in my recent application to Bank of America I expressed my interests in Asset management and M&A , I assumed both of these to be under their investment banking division (and asset management specifically in wealth management ). However, apparently this is not the case if they had an assessment management division they would make it a separate one not in investment banking, or so I was told. On their website, BoA didn't make this clear so I'm confused as to why their asset management division (if they have one at all) isn't under IB .

Assuming there are going to be more nuanced and firm-specific confusions regarding divisions, how would I go about finding more about their divisions in more detail as I don't want to make the same mistake again?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some steps to find more about firm-specific company divisions:

  1. Company Website: Start by thoroughly exploring the company's official website. Look for sections like "About Us," "Our Divisions," or "Our Businesses." These sections often provide detailed information about the different divisions within the company.

  2. Annual Reports and 10-K Filings: Public companies are required to file annual reports and 10-K filings with the SEC. These documents provide comprehensive details about the company's structure, including its various divisions. For banks, you can also check the FDIC website for specific information on their commercial bank portions.

  3. Networking: Reach out to current or former employees through LinkedIn or professional networks. They can provide insider information about the company's structure and clarify any confusions you might have.

  4. WSO Forums and Threads: Utilize forums like Wall Street Oasis to ask questions and read threads related to the company. Many users share their experiences and insights about different firms and their divisions.

  5. Recruitment Events and Webinars: Attend recruitment events, webinars, and information sessions hosted by the company. These events often provide detailed insights into the company's divisions and allow you to ask questions directly to recruiters or employees.

  6. Job Descriptions: Carefully read job descriptions for the roles you are interested in. They often mention the specific division or business unit the role is part of, which can help you understand the company's structure better.

By following these steps, you can gain a clearer understanding of the divisions within a company and avoid any confusion in your applications.
