Junior Resume - Non Target

Hey all, Just wanted to ask for some help reviewing my resume. I luckily have secured a internship for this Summer in NYC so that will really help fill out my resume. Also, I was accepted to a special program at my school where you basically do a large team project and then fly out to companies and present to the CFO and other officers. Would I want to include this on my resume even though I am not even enrolled in this class yet (it begins in the Fall)? Thank you so much for all your help!

"Traveling and photography"... does that mean you like to take vacations, and enjoy taking pictures while on vacation?

if you're going to list hobbies on your resume, make them interesting. "Traveled to the follow countries: a,b,c,d,e" or "Independent studies in photography". Otherwise it could be confused for taking a roadtrip to Iowa with a disposable camera.

SlacmerSS23,

Thank you so much for your critique. I'll incorporate how I lived in Vietnam for four months working with victims of AO and some info about two photo shows I had.

That would be some real meat to add!

I've gotten interviews for the strangest stuff, including running a marathon, and starting a Christmas snack food business, and travelling to Asia a few times... If an interviewer has to decide between two equally qualified people, they'll pick the person who's more interesting.

Intermediate Accounting? Is it financial or managerial? I would take off the bold font for 'business modeling', and put 'visual basic' and 'spreadsheet modeling' down on your skills and interests. Change the 'assisted in presenting' to 'presented'

Yes, I would include your future internship/programs immediately.

I think if you would take anyting out of your resume to make room for the new program you will be involved in, it should the 'investment management association' thing.

Just my two cents; and, good luck!

No offense, but your resume looks like shit. Seems like you took about 5 mins to throw it together.

The good news? It's completely fixable. You have pretty decent stats/content to work with. At least its not the other way around.

My advice? Search through the various resumes on here and copy a professional looking one.

Simba,

Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate the help and I've adopted some of your suggestions.

BroDoggy,

Thank your comments, I will search the site and see if there is a better resume template/etc. to work with. Is there a specific one you would recommend. I just followed the formatting my school recommends. Before I read your comment however, I was tweaking my resume based on critiques but I will go back and reformat everything I guess.

notes: -was just elected Treasurer of club so I updated that (going to try to add another bullet point here) -should I add more classes under "coursework includes:" (I've taken 3 accounting, business stats, 3 excel data modeling, financial management) -I condensed the skills section and removed the Microsoft Office Certifications because apparently it doesn't mean crap

Once again, all insight is extremely helpful and I truly appreciate it. Thanks.

Try to throw in some BS to make your resume have more meat in the middle. I would then reduce margins if you can. Your bullet points are way too short.. go into more detail about what you did and the results.

for example, "Created and designed displays"... okay this has absolutely 0 application to finance, but if you can show that you led a team to create X amount per month, leading to increased funds or increased membership, then that'd carry more weight.

It's just about making yourself much more presentable... you don't want to lie about what you did; just present yourself so that when someone takes 1 minute to look at your resume, it looks like you put some thought into it.

What will you be doing in your internship in NYC SA? I'm shocked that you could even land anything remotely financial with this resume and going to Tulane.
