Non Target Resume

Hey guys,

I am at a non-target school (USC) and am late to decide that I am interested in IB. Therefore, I have little related experience. I'm currently at UBS working in Wealth Management as a WM (marketing) intern with one summer left.

GPA is relatively low for IB, though not below a 3.0.

Any strategic advice?

Thanks!

You are not late but right on time to still succeed. Your goal as of now is to get an IBD summer analyst position for your last summer. You still have approx 50% of your GPA left to be determined so kill it in class and get stellar grades. Then use networking from USC to find people on the street who can give you the leg up.

I'd look into joining, if you haven't already, organizations like Trojan Investing Society (TIS) and applying for the Leaders Program. In orgs like TIS, or Trojan Consulting Group, you will find plenty of extraordinary members. Additionally, and more importantly, you will have access to the training resources and networking that these groups put on. You should also look into the CAP program, where you'll be paired with professional alumni in various industries that could potentially pull strings in your favor.

Don't worry about the "non-target" status (which I would argue Marshall is more of a semi-target), I am entering my sophomore year and know plenty of successful (ie. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bain, etc.) interns at top banks and consulting firms.

Join relevant organizations, demonstrate commitment/leadership, network, and leverage your UBS experience into a Jr. internship.

Good Luck!! (Maybe I'll see you around campus)

First time, long time... I don't go to USC but I have family that did. I'm not sure why you say it's not a target school, I've seen them listed on many MMs as a campus they recruit on. Not an Ivy league but the Trojan Alumni network is one of the strongest for any college. Worked at UBS myself in WM and used this as a resume builder and now at a PE shop. Definitely not too late, just network like crazy, join any finance club you can, use career services, etc.
