Yet another resume look-over... thanks.

Hey guys,

I'm a rising junior at a top LAC in NE. I have reworked my resume a bit and its pseudo- M&I with some changes. I decided to keep my HS info in there as well as the country club info in there because I thought that maybe it was good to show I worked all my summers in HS and may be something, be it location or whatever, an interviewer can relate to? What do you guys think?

Also, regarding my college GPA its a B- for a few reasons (mainly freshman year) and realize that it's not high. I have to work on it this year. Should I still put it on there even if its not good? I feel that a resume is something used to sell oneself and clearly this doesnt do the job but then again I don't want them to think its worse than they might assume.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Here are your issues:

  1. Too much white space. Make your text a little bigger - it will highlight the important information and eliminate the empitness.

  2. Text is too wordy and not concise. Give your reader a concise elevator pitch. If you can't look at your resume and pick out the 3 top reasons why someone should hire you in the first 10 seconds, you're probably not gonna make your sale.

  3. High School and College Community activities are negatives. No high school on the resume after sophomore year. A community swim instructor does not stand out and is not related to WS.

My advice: Stop posting here. Look at more example resumes and some advertisements for some of the top products you've bought recently. Your resume should be a good sales pitch based on your relevant experience, but you don't need to reinvent the wheel. See what other people do well, and mimic it. You just might learn something.
