3.5 GPA gunning for B-school

Hi. I'm graduating honours engineering from a top public school with a 3.5 GPA. I'm just wondering if top MBA schools like MBA business schools<br /> ">M7 are out of questions? What should I do to prepare myself for the applications?

Yeah 3.5 in engineering isn't bad at all my friend, it's pretty good! I think for business schools the #1 most important thing is work experience, as long as you get a 730+ on the GMAT you'll be in line for M7. However, business school's really look at the person holistically so things like community service matter more often than not.

Thanks. I was worried when I read that avg GPA for M7 is 3.7. I'm currently working for a seed-fund VC, not in investment valuation but more in helping portfolio companies with sales (I can switch but I think valuation is boring). I'm looking at other opportunities after grad, but is staying with this job a good idea?

On the extra-curricular side, I did lots competition and leadership stuffs in college. Are these considered as well? Or they only look at activities while working?

Thanks!

I have a 3.0 GPA in engineering and limited extra-curriculars since I graduated from undergrad and I will be starting at Columbia in the fall. It's definitely possible, I had great work experience and leadership to showcase in my application and a 750 GMAT to prove I can handle the academic rigor. Just kick ass on the GMAT and work hard and you definitely have a shot.
