Accounting Vs BUAD Major (Which is more important)

Hello there.

I am currently a sophomore undergraduate at a semi-target school. I want to do finance (preferably I-Banking or PE). I know it seems obvious to pick Business Administration if I wanted to do finance, but here's my argument:

1) Accounting Majors and BUAD majors essentially take the same courses (at my school) - There are two differences: 1) Accounting majors take much more accounting courses than BUAD 2) BUAD requires 4 Upper Division Business courses (Could be in any business-related field, i.e. Finance, Bus. Econ, Marketing, Management, etc.)

2) My school's BUAD major offers NO concentration or record of having any concentration anywhere on the degree/transcript. The only indication that would show I am concentrated in Finance is the knowledge I learn in the UD Finance courses I would take (Which wouldn't come up unless I list it on resume or during an interview).

3) If I were to major in accounting, I could still take UD Finance courses that BUAD majors can take.

Essentially, if I did major in accounting, the only thing that would set me apart from a BUAD major is the fact that I have an accounting degree and I have taken much more accounting courses than BUAD major. I would have just as much Finance knowledge (in terms of coursework) as a BUAD major with the added bonus of Accounting knowledge.

The only downside I see to this is the fact that it will be more difficult and the course load would be larger, but I would still graduate on time.

Note: I am doing finance internships instead of accounting internships (since I want to do finance) so my resume will show finance experience with an accounting degree.

A few questions: 1) When I enter the job market, will it hurt me if I have an accounting degree vs BUAD? Will it benefit me if I have an accounting degree (with the finance knowledge)? Does it really matter at all (since experience is the most important thing)?

2) Are there any more downsides besides the ones identified above?

Please and thank you!

Wtf is BUAD?

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Accounting is literally key. Unless your school's OCR favors business administration (I don't know why they would) or you think your GPA will take a significant hit from all the accounting classes, go for the accounting major. Technicals will be much easier once you know your way around a balance sheet.
