BU vs NYU
I just finished my freshman year at a state university in Florida and I got accepted as a transfer student to BU Questrom for Finance and to NYU CAS for Mathematics. Regardless of what school I go to I really want to get a degree in math (major or minor) because I really like the subject and think it will be useful for my intended field of study/career. This being said I also wanna pursue a business career, and eventually do something along the lines of becoming a quantitative analyst or possibly an investment banker.
At BU I would major in finance and then double major or minor in mathematics.
As for NYU, I would major in mathematics and economics, or possibly try to transfer to stern for finance and do a major or minor in mathematics along with the finance major.
So my question is, which would be a better university to attend, given that financial aid is the same for both schools? Which would provide better opportunities and internships? Also, if you have any advice as to what academic path I should take in order to reach my career end goal, please let me know!
NYU Stern > BU for sure. NYU CAS vs. BU is closer but would still give the edge to NYU.
Better internships will be found at NYU - given it's location, local alumni network, and position as a target school (assuming you transfer to Stern). Career support also stronger at NYU through career center/OCR and multiple finance-focused student organizations (again, assuming a transfer to Stern). Currently work with analysts from BU and NYU and sounds like the BU guy had to network like 100x harder than anyone else just to get a few interviews for SA positions.
However, you're in a slightly awkward situation given that you're transferring to NYU CAS for sophomore year and wouldn't be able to get into Stern next year, which will put you a bit behind given the earlier recruiting timeline - so there is that to consider.
Also heard NYU ranks very highly in math (top 10 alongside Ivies, MIT, Oxford, etc.), although think that might've been for graduate program so not sure how their undergrad math is perceived.
NYU definitely, Try transferring to Stern though as soon as you can.
