Business Schools - Best Bang for your Buck

Hi there,

Currently an undergraduate from Ireland studying in NYC. Upon graduation, I am considering an MSF so I can further pursue the specific fields I am interested in, if no FT offers arise. In Ireland, i can do a MSF for approx. 11,000 Euro or an MS in Quantitative Finance for 15,000 Euro.

-Would you advise against leaving the NYC/US if I wished to go into IB after my MSF?

-Is it worth the attractive price range in the end i.e. is there sufficient IB recruiting at schools like Michael Smurfitt BS, UCD or Trinity College, Dublin?

  • Are there any schools available to me in the US that are priced in the same ballpark, AND have a reputable name?

Thank you in advance! Love the site & all ur helpful wisdom

If you want to work in the U.S. in IB, then stick around here. If, however, you are fine with IB overseas and smaller shops, check the recruiting of the schools you listed - if you get some hits, then save your money.

Good luck.

Honestly, you'll have to choose between location and price. If you want an affordable MSF, then you should probably go back to your side of the pond (Stockholm SE has free tuition and places well in London). However, if you want to stay Stateside, then it's going to cost you.

A reasonable compromise would be to get an affordable MSF in Europe, place in London, work there for a couple of years, and then do an internal transfer to get back to NYC. You could be back here within five years.

Location is not really an issue for me. Price of education & the quality of the work I will be doing after the degree are my priorities. London is a viable option, as are any other locations where I can survive speaking English fluently.

The "attraction" of home is moving back with the parents for a year. If i study in a foreign city it will cost all the same probably, especially with the economics of living in London, & in San Franciscan's example of Sweden (bought a 12 euro [converted to euro) BigMac meal in Sweden once!)
