Is MFin worth it from Canada?
Hey everyone, curious to hear if anyone has done this before or if you have seen anyone go from Canadian UG to a more prestigious MFin. Currently a student at a Canadian non-target and was wondering if targeting places like LBS MFin or Vandy MFin would be worth it in order to have a better name brand on the CV for coming back to Canada to recruit? For context I am currently one year out of grad with some boutique IB experience / other internships at the Big4.
Are there any good Canadian MFin programs that are worth it?
Any advice is appreciated.
I would say only the U of T MFE is worth it, in the sense that their placements are close to top tier as you can get in Canada. Visit their site and take a look at the current students placements.
Its pretty econ heavy, but the students actually end up in some pretty different jobs. S&T, IB, Portfolio Management, and consulting...
Cheers thanks, will look into that
UofT MFE has terrible placements, have you seen the last few years? All back office roles, 1 global in the last 3 years. Its shit lol, maybe it was good at one time not anymore.

Ur dumb as fuck
I don’t really see any traditional back office roles but I may be wrong. I just have a few friends/former co-workers who wanted to get an MFin or something similar. This program just seems to give the best opportunities in Canada from am an MFin (Not a traditional MBA). I can’t comment on the previous years, but I still think it’s a solid program in Canada.
But it always is dependent on the role you want afterward, I think it’s great for Sales and Trading positions.
in my opinion if you want to stay in canada, staying in canada for a masters is the better option since its just easier to network and do internships while u study. Unless you get accepted into a top tier program outside of canada then maybe its worth it. Uoft MFE is good but also check the Masters in finance at mcgill and queens smith school of business which are also great options. Good luck
The Queen’s MFin is not a serious program by my understanding
you mean the MMF at Mcgill? the fund seems interesting but I dont think placement outside of quebec is consistent
yeah thats the one, now i dont have exact data on placements of this program. But mcgill is one of the most prestigious universities in canada so finding a job in toronto/vancouver/calgary is manageable if you network enough but thats just my opinion
Pm me
Can I pm? Would love to know as I'm also thinking about applying.
