Chances at Good Masters Program?

Hello everyone,

I'm just your typical nervous undergrad student wondering what the community thinks about my chances to get in a good masters program. I have been looking at the Finance & Economics MSc at LSE in particular, though I would be interested in comparable schools/degrees in the US.

  • 3.55 GPA from non-target state university
    • Double major Finance & Econ w/ Math Minor
  • 770, 165 GRE
  • CFA Level 1
  • C++, SQL Server, SAS, and MATLAB experience
  • 1 year (Spring, Summer, and Fall) internship at boutique investment bank
  • President of the Econ Club
  • Semester on Student Managed Investment Fund
  • Strong personal recommendations from the Associate Dean of the business school and the department chairs in Finance & Econ, plus recommendation from math professor.
  • In Progress: Published econ research in my state's academic journal

My main worry is that my grades are evenly distributed throughout all my classes (i.e, an even mix of A's and B's in my majors/minor), so there is no one strong academic showing especially with such a low GPA. I never dropped a class, and repeated two general classes that I got C's in (if we are including the updated grades, my GPA is closer to 3.62).

My research is basically done, I am still working through the process of getting it published though so its not set in stone.

I would plan on doing my masters after working for a few years after undergrad anyway as I desperately need to refill the coffers.

Any input/advice, no matter how negative (as long as it is honest!) is appreciated! Thanks!

"whattherock"

which are you trying to do, a PhD or a professional masters? sounds like your "work" are very academic

I would go for a Masters degree that would be applicable for either working or taking into a PhD program if possible. I want to keep my options relatively open as I never know where I might decide on ultimately going in life. I am about to start my last semester of undergrad, so I can still decide - well, hopefully :)
