Change undergraduate school?

Hello friends,

I need your advice. I am almost done with my first year at Copenhagen Business School studying undergraduate international business. I am having second thoughts about this school and about my future in this country. I am originally from Sweden and I now understand I would rather want to work there or if I can make it, go to UK/international. I do not have my career path entirely figured out, so ideally I want to have many options. Considering this, would it be wise to change to an undergraduate at Stockholm School of Economics in the fall? Or does it not matter that much and it is better to just finish here since I have one year done?

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

The transition is easy in the sense that I won’t have to write an application or anything, just apply and I will get in because I have perfect GPA from swedish high school. However, I will have to start over from the beginning so I have basically wasted one year.

Hmm that makes it a bit more complicated. In the grand scheme of things losing 1 year isn't anything major so it's up to you. You could also potentially complete your degree at CBS and then get your masters in finance at Oxford/LSE/LBS and then work in London or Stockholm. From what I've seen on wso, Swedish banks love the aforementioned three when it comes to recruiting.

From Sweden myself, can try to give you some guidance. Would personally stick with CBS, there is a minimal difference if you study at CBS or SSE, although some internship places are locked for only SSE places you will not have an issue with placement from CBS in Stockholm. My tips would be to aim to figure out your career path and maximize GPA, and I don't think you have the possibility to switch to SSE without starting 1st year all over again and too late to apply to first year again.

Ok thank you for the insights. How well known and respected is CBS at Swedish firms?

Since you are Swedish you might have any other tips for landing a first internship/student job? I don’t have any finance experience or contacts in the industry. I have not had any luck with applying to banks so far, should I try to go for a position in the finance department of a firm in another industry to build up my resume? Any recommendations for where I can find smaller firms that maybe less competitive?

CBS is very well regarded at Swedish firms, like with a good CV you should not have issues landing interviews.

Structure CV well, apply/cold-email smaller boutiques, learn technicals and apply everywhere. Everyone has been in your situation and received 100 rejections before their first internship. Not sure how CBS works, but you must have a finance society? Be engaged there and slowly start building your CV. Majority of people in their first year haven't landed an internship so don't worry, must want you to be 2nd or 3rd year.
