So I've done a very stupid thing and just realized it. I'm hoping it'll work out fine, but it may end up being a huge pain in the ass and ruin me for like 3 more weeks.
I registered for my GMAT exam on Tuesday in Beijing/Shanghai under the name: Tom Michael Peterson (not that exact name, but you get the idea). My passport, however, says that my name is Thomas Michael Peterson. My diver's license (which also means nothing here in China) also says Thomas Michael Peterson.... after all, that's my full name.
I now here horror stories about kids not being able to take the exam because the wrote "Thomas M Peterson" and there passport says "Thomas Michael Peterson"... fuck me!
I am trying to get in contact with the GMAT people but they have like no hours, and the problem is that monday is a national holiday in China so they'll be off, and I'm sure they won't be able to change it that day (I've heard they can do it one day before). I could call the U.S. office on monday morning their time (late at night here in China), but I'm not sure they'll be able to get it done by the end of the day... FML.
Lessons learned - read the fine print. When registering for an exam or other important thing, use the exact name on your passport.
I'll let you guys know how it works out --- hopefully I am able to take the exam and get it the fuck over with so i don't have to move it back another 2 weeks re-arrange my schedule, continue studying, etc....
If you use a combo of your driver's license (is it diver or driver?) and your passport I don't think youll have an issue. My last name on my passport has an 'S' but my last name on my GMAT registration had a 'Z' where the S'' should have been. I took the GMAT no problem. Don't freak out mate.
Shouldnt be a problem. My passport had my middle name as my first but I registered the other way around. Was still accepted.
I hope you guys are right! I've heard a lot of tough stories about them being sticklers on this one though (meaning after I googled it I got forums with pissed off people). Even if I can't get it switched in time I'm gonna go anyways and see what happens... worst case scenario i wasted $250 (I spent more than that on bottles last night) and i have to take it in a few weeks.... not really a big deal anyways.
And whoever threw monkey shit at this original post can go fuck himself. I bet you were hoping someone made a horrible mistake with terrible consequences so that you could read it and bask in glorious shadenfraude... and feel modestly positive about your own pitiful prospects for just a moment before remembering that you're a loser. And yeah, the system does get abused. It was a good idea in theory, but it should only be the admins that award SBs and Shits. I have to say though --- I kind of like having my name posted on the right of the screen constantly --- even if it is in a negative context. "there's no such thing as bad press"
Hey man, best of luck, just make a big fucking stink about it at the test if they tell you you can't take it. Worst case scenario? You don't get to take it AND you got to blow off some steam. Best case scenario? They let you take it and you piss off some guy you'll never have to deal with again in your life.

yeah. I'm going to make it an issue if they fuck with me. it's probably going to be a Chinese test administrator who's 5'6 and tiny too (I'm 6'4 and 215) and I'm going to strike the fear of death in his heart if he fucks with me.
Pymp, my friend had the same exact problem trying to open a bank account in China. If you dont write your name exactly how it's written, they have the ability to not let you do what you're trying to do. He filled out his name as First Middle Last name, and the bank told him he wasn't the right person because the passport said Last, First Middle or something along those lines.
Surprisingly enough, after I spent like 2 hours on the phone with a bunch of guys in in India creating an "incident report" the night before, I was actually able to take the exam. I had to get to the place an hour early and go through a bunch of shit, but it all worked out fine. I'd say the distraction probably cost me 20 points though... but I did well enough. Done forever! Hurray!

I've seen monkey shit thrown for totally frivolous reasons (and been on the receiving end a few times) but this is probably the worst I've seen. Frequent abusers need to have their monkey shit throwing privileges taken away.
I wish there was a way for me to see who has thrown all the MS at me.... I must admit, I'm curious to know.
