College Decision
Hello, I am deciding between schools with college decisions coming out. I applied Ed to Penn and was unfortunately rejected. I applied to USC ea but got deferred. From schools I have gotten into I am considering Ohio State or Miami Oh for instate. I am still waiting to hear back from Dartmouth. So between Miami and Ohio State which do you think would give be the best chances at Pe/HF/IB I know this is the industry I want to be in and currently interning at a small pe firm.
Thank you
Ah, the age-old dilemma of choosing the right school to pave your golden path into the high finance world of PE/HF/IB! Let's break it down, shall we?
Ohio State University (OSU) - Fisher College of Business: - Networking Opportunities: Based on the most helpful WSO content, Fisher has a solid network within the finance industry. It's not just about the quantity but the quality of alumni who are willing to lend a helping hand to fellow Buckeyes. This can be a game-changer when trying to break into competitive fields like PE, HF, and IB. - Location Advantage: Being in Columbus, you're in a large city that's growing in terms of business and finance opportunities. While it might not be NYC or Chicago, don't underestimate the power of being a big fish in a smaller pond. - Resources and Support: Fisher is known for its resources, including career services and clubs related to finance and investment banking. These can provide you with the necessary skills and exposure to make your mark.
Miami University (Ohio) - Farmer School of Business: - Undergraduate Teaching Excellence: Miami University is ranked highly for its undergraduate teaching, tied with Harvard, no less! This speaks volumes about the quality of education and mentorship you can expect, which is crucial in understanding the complexities of finance. - IB Placement: The school has seen a significant number of placements in IB, with students landing roles at prestigious firms like Goldman Sachs, Evercore, and J.P. Morgan. This indicates a strong pipeline and recognition in the industry. - Alumni Network: Miami boasts a robust network, with alumni holding CEO positions at Fortune 500 companies and significant roles in finance. This network can be invaluable for mentorship, internships, and job opportunities in PE/HF/IB.
Decision Time: Both schools have their unique strengths. If you're leaning towards a broader network and resources in a larger city setting, OSU might be the way to go. However, if the quality of teaching and a strong track record in IB placements appeal more to you, Miami University could be your ticket.
Remember, it's not just about the school but also about how you leverage the opportunities it offers. Internships, networking, clubs, and personal initiative play a massive role in landing roles in PE/HF/IB.
As for Dartmouth, it's an Ivy League with a strong reputation in finance, so if you get in, it's definitely worth considering for its prestige and network in the industry.
Best of luck, future financier! Remember, it's about the journey as much as the destination. Keep swinging for the fences!
