Columbia Dual BA vs T20s?
Hey, I recently got into Columbia's Dual BA program along with a few other top schools. With the program being obscure, I wanted to know its merits in finance versus other target schools like Columbia College or UChicago.
Context:
It's a four year program where you spend the first two years in France at Sciences Po and the last two years at Columbia GS. Most students matriculate to law school, although I've heard of a few who end up in IB/consulting.
Pros:
- The Columbia name is there and I spend the last two years in Columbia.
- I get two degrees, which could make me stand out (although maybe more of a conversation topic than anything else).
- The experience seems fun as I can meet interesting people in France.
- Tuition is cheaper because costs for French universities are much lower. However, cost of attendance won't be an issue for me.
Cons:
- With the first two years being spent in France, Columbia's advantages of networking, on-campus recruitment, and proximity to firms aren't present.
- I'm placed in Columbia GS instead of CC or SEAS and my degree reflects that with it being written in english rather than latin.
Unknowns:
- Where do Dual BA students place in finance? GS, Lazard, CVP, MS, McKinsey or BAC, Barclays, and Citi? Are there discrepancies between non-diversity and diversity students in where they end up?
Given the pros cons and unknowns, does Columbia's Dual BA program belong in the same realm as Columbia College/UChicago/Duke/Dartmouth/UPenn (non-Wharton)?
