Columbia University undergrad majors for IB
Sup. There's a whole lot of mess over here on the topic of undergrad programs for IB at Columbia. In particular, I see the repeated discussion of EconOR, FinEngOR of SEAS and Econ of Columbia College. So....
Does EconOR still exist? I tried to look up, but couldn't find anything.
Which one is most valued by the bulge bracket: FinEngOR or College Econ (or EconOR)?
And finally, won't attending SEAS make me a nolifer compared to a College student?
Thanks in advance
P.S: might be a wrong forum, advice me if this question was irrelevant
Lot of things to address here. First and foremost, did you get in yet? If not, don't worry about it yet, you don't have a decision on your hands right now. If you did, then congratulations!
Generally speaking, your major doesn't matter THAT much. There's way too many other factors that are more important, one of the main ones being how successful you are in whatever degree program you pick. That being said, pick the one you think you'd be better at and that you'd get a higher GPA in. Applicants from Bumfuck university can network their way in now, so you should have no problem coming from Columbia (#4 or #5 of the Ivy's in my opinion).
I'm not sure what you mean by nolifer. If you mean that you'll have no social life, I strongly disagree. Sure, the engineering college isn't the College, but you're still in New York City, one of the most fun cities you could possibly be in for school. Secondly, the College kids haven't shunned you, you can still interact with them and make friends with any of them. Don't forget there's plenty of students from NYU (and Barnard girls if that's your thing). If you mean that you have a shitty academic pedigree, then that's also not correct. Sure, SEAS has a higher acceptance rate, but it's still Columbia.

CC or SEAS, at the end of the day it doesn't matter much for IB.
As for joining a finance club, it's a must and the below thread is a pretty good overview:

Good luck!
I even know women's studies majors from my year and Barnard psych majors who got offers at GS... you'll be fine. The major doesn't matter that much coming from a school of such caliber as Columbia.
welp, thank you for your reply. In fact, I'd like to find myself as a women's studies girl that broke into the NY IB one day, but I didn't even manage to break out of the waitlist. Gonna be attending qfin and risk management at CUHK, hope that'll work out
