Consensus on St. John's University's in NYC Finance program?
Hi everybody,
I just got accepted as a transfer student to St. John's University - Peter Tobin B-School. I would like to know what does a persons future look like, with respect to the Street, after St. John's? I will be majoring in Finance. I am also shooting to do an Economics major too, even though they seem to not to smile on the double majoring. I have all that worked out. Anyways... I would just like to get a general view of what the consensus is out there on this school's finance program.

St Johns is a commuter school. I wouldn't say its a terrible school but not great either. Just be at the top of your class and get involved then you should be good. Transfer to Baruch if you can, another commuter school but has a decent alumni network and placements.
I tried them, but they tried to dump in BMCC. Coming from a private institution, I obviously said no thanks to that.

You can't compare BMCC to Baruch. Baruch has the top finance program in the whole CUNY system. If you like private school, i.e paying more, then go to St John in that part of Queens. Baruch is right in midtown and has a much better name, network and program.
TOBIN is a joke, please do not go there by all means. After two years of misery I finally transferred to Baruch College. Baruch is not all that the greatest either, but its MUCH better than TOBIN especially in Finance. TOBIN does not cater to Finance majors, they're OKAY with accounting since its a catholic schools and accounting is all about morals and all. Tobin barely sends any students to wall street, I've checked there alumni program (COACH). And for St. JOhn's job fairs, you wont find any company hiring off of wall street. The best finance related internship you'll get is probably JPmorgan Commercial banking, not as a banker but as a customer service rep all the way in Long Island. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO St.JOHNS. AT LEAST TRANSFER TO BARUCH. STJOHNS is known for pharmacy, not finance.

St Johns for finance is a JOKE!
While Baruch is not well known outside of NYC, it has an OK reputation on Wall St and is a semi target for F/O for some BB firms (mostly Mid/Back for the rest).
Baruch lets people worry about their grades and networking rather than worrying about how they will pay off their enormous debt after graduation

If you want to study finance do not go to St. Johns. The teachers are horrible and the career fairs suck. The only good thing about St. Johns is they well known in NYC and have some good alumni.
