Career Resources
No, if you are cool and can talk with others. I don't see this being an issue unless someone is an ass****.
I mean there are a lot of assholes in finance though - probably 20-30% of people in finance are assholes honestly...
I do think it will be an issue bc people in finance are kind of judgmental. They'll take your networking call or coffee chat, but as soon as they see you physically, they will unfortunately judge you and write you off.

I can only speak from the banking perspective but I would imagine that you will face similar hurdles in any client facing role. If you are good at CS, I would go the SWE route because the culture in tech is much more liberal.
You’re going to have to work harder, but as long as you know your shit, I think you’d be fine. The world of finance is very brutal and full of assholes, so I’m sure someone will make fun of you at some point, but you need to keep your composure and frame. In finance, as long as you do your work and know your shit, people could care less about what you look like. That being said, taller, hotter, conventionally attractive people find more success. I don’t think it’s insurmountable though and you should go for your dreams.
I do think that being an software engineer would be an easier path for you, and has a better work life balance, and is overall a better career path than investment banking, so seriously consider doing that. But if investment banking is what you want, please by all means, go for it 100%, don’t let anyone tell you no, and bust your ass until you get the offer. Good luck!!
You got into Udub? We talking vs Queens/Ivey or what?
Truly even though recruiting is better at the business schools. Think you will feel much more at home and ease at Uwaterloo. You will be surrounded by people who also did stack development and spend lots of times on their screens. Now that said your math average is suprisingly low for Udub, even the business schools surprised you got in. Why you think math marks are so bad when you did/enjoyed the coding job? Nm, misread it what you mean you have to get 80% 1st year?
