Do I apply to PE or IB as a rising senior at a target school, or work at my company and wait for a department change?

I currently work at a reputable MM Private Credit firm in Chicago, but under the Investor Relations team. I do not have any IB Deal experience, but am a finance and business analytics major at a semi-target, with 3 previous internships, being a wealth management intern (more shadowing), accounting and business management intern at a temp agency, and a data and business analytics intern at a PE firm where I worked on databases.

I want to break into IB, or a PE Analyst role, rather than an Investor Relations intern, however, I have some concerns. Would any firms look at me as a competitive applicant for either an internship coming out of college or a full time offer? I want to work in IB ideally, but just don't know if its possible in my position.

My other option is to wait some time with my current firm, and then maybe lateral into their more "finance" side of the firm? I am at a loss right now and feel a bit stuck. Any advice?
