Donating to a prospective business school

My friend and I had a bet where if he won, I had to donate $5,000 to an organization I hate. As a Virginia Tech graduate, my first thought was UVa. I guess that got me thinking--although I hate UVa as an athletic rival, if I could get in, I would definitely attend business school there. Since I donate about $15,000/year to various causes (if anyone knew who I was, I wouldn't say anything, but since this is a fairly anonymous board, it won't be construed as "bragging" or what not) and since I will not be applying to school for another 3-4 years, I was wondering if donations had any impact on admissions.

Yeah, I know $1 million certainly would, but would, say, $15-20,000 donated over the course of 3 years or so make any kind of a difference or is that throwing good money after bad?

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww doooooooooooooooood come oooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. so your basically saying that you want to try to buy your way into admission. come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

seriously though, i dont think it would make a difference. in fact, the adcoms might figure out that you were trying to bribe the school. save that 15,000-20,000 and buy yourself some cool stuff.

and that was a bad bet, btw.

I don't really see this helping your cause much. In fact, why would you donate thousands of dollars every year to the school - if you have that much money to donate to a random B school, why do you need B school in the first place. Work on your candidacy, your stats and your leadership experiences - save your money for your tuition.

It's called charitable contributions. I know this is a lost art in America, but yes, I do donate to charity (about 15% of income)--it's part of my budget, it's not a part of some massive wealth I have.

No, it won't help you for admissions.

It has to be millions - amounts where the Dean would get involved, which would allow you to bypass the admissions process entirely and where you (and your family) would be meeting the Dean directly.
