Dumbed Down Guide to (Macro)economics

Can anyone refer me to a somewhat dumbed down source to make sense of macroeconomic events - in particular with regards to monetary and fiscal policy? I am not interested in reading Mankiw or anything like that (again) nor do I look for some rubbish airport books. I feel like I need something that cuts out all the academic nonsense and instead provides some simple heuristics to get an idea of how the main markets (goods & service, labor, money/bond, foreign exchange) interact and the effect of different policies on them.

I am aware that the main problem the fact is that I, in spite of having attented micro- and macroeconomics at university, still lack the intellectual capacity to put it all together and make sense of it. However, it is usually a sign that you've really understood a topic when you're capable to condense it into easy words. Somehow, I can't find anything that comes even close to that.

A concise guide to macroeconomics by David Moss is a really good starter since it covers mostly everything related to macroeconomics in a simple manner.

Here are other books that go into more detail:

Holy grail of macro economics by Richard Koo (talks about Japan’s lost decade)

Global Macro Theory and Practice by Andrew Rozanov (although it doesn’t teach macro concepts but is an overview of global macro as an investment strategy and the different ways people apply global macro)

Applied Macroeconomics and Investment Strategy by Robert T McGee

But yeah these are just starting points for you to jump start your own research into macro.
