Edinburgh Vs Manchester Vs Erasmus Rotterdam
I have been accepted to economics and finance in Edinburgh and Manchester. In Erasmus for double bachelor's in economics and econometrics. What would give the best opportunities for IB. Really struggling to decide between them.
Erasmus is better but double degree is tough get prepared ;)
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
Erasmus University Rotterdam: The double bachelor's in Economics and Econometrics at Erasmus is a strong contender. Erasmus is highly regarded in Europe, particularly for its quantitative and finance-related programs. The econometrics component adds a significant edge for roles in trading, quant positions, and even investment banking (IB), as these roles often value strong quantitative skills. Additionally, being in the Netherlands, Erasmus offers proximity to major financial hubs like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and London, which can be advantageous for networking and internships.
University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh is a respected university in the UK, and its Economics and Finance program is solid. However, it doesn't have the same level of recognition for IB as some other UK universities like Oxbridge, LSE, or Imperial. While it can still lead to IB opportunities, you might need to work harder to stand out, especially if targeting London-based roles.
University of Manchester: Manchester is another reputable UK university, but it ranks slightly below Edinburgh in terms of prestige and IB placement. While it has a strong alumni network and good career services, it may not provide the same level of opportunities as Erasmus or Edinburgh for breaking into IB.
Recommendation:
If your primary goal is to maximize opportunities in IB, Erasmus University Rotterdam would likely be the best choice. The double bachelor's in Economics and Econometrics offers a unique quantitative edge, and Erasmus has a strong reputation in Europe for finance-related fields. However, if you are set on working in the UK, Edinburgh might be a better option due to its stronger UK presence compared to Erasmus.
