Emory Oxford vs IU Kelley Hutton Honors undergrad

Hey everyone, first post!!!

I’m deciding between Indiana Kelley (Hutton Honors) and Emory University (Oxford College for 2 years to Goizueta) for undergrad, and I’m trying to figure out which is the better path if I want to break into finance, so IB, PE, or consulting down the line. Money is not a big factor btw

Kelley has the IB Workshop, strong alumni ties in Chicago/NYC, and a very nice recruiting pipeline. Additionally, I prefer the large campus atmosphere.

However, Emory Goizieta has a better reputation according to many, especially when it comes to academics and national prestige. I also dislike the small class sizes, though I do care about its prestige.

I was admitted to Emory oxford off the waitlist so I only have 5-7 days to decide, so all inputs are appreciated.

Thank you!!!!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to consider:

  1. Indiana Kelley (Hutton Honors):

    • Kelley is well-known for its Investment Banking Workshop (IBW), which places ~80+ candidates annually into top IB roles. This program is a significant advantage for breaking into finance, especially IB and PE.
    • Kelley has strong alumni ties in Chicago and NYC, providing a robust recruiting pipeline.
    • The large campus atmosphere and resources at Kelley might align better with your preference for a bigger school environment.
    • However, Kelley is still considered a non-target school, meaning you’ll need to work harder to stand out compared to students from target schools.
  2. Emory University (Oxford College to Goizueta):

    • Emory Goizueta has a better national reputation and academic prestige, which can be advantageous for consulting and finance roles.
    • Goizueta is considered a semi-target school, which means it has better access to top firms compared to Kelley.
    • The smaller class sizes at Oxford College might not align with your preference, but transitioning to Goizueta after two years could provide a more traditional business school experience.
    • Emory’s prestige might carry more weight in consulting compared to Kelley.

Key Considerations:

  • If your primary goal is Investment Banking, Kelley’s IB Workshop and alumni network provide a more direct and proven path.
  • If you value prestige and broader career flexibility (e.g., consulting or finance roles outside of IB), Emory Goizueta might be the better choice.
  • Since money is not a factor, focus on where you feel you’ll thrive academically and socially. Kelley offers a large campus experience, while Emory provides a more prestigious but smaller environment initially.

Given your preference for a large campus and the strength of Kelley’s IB Workshop for finance careers, Kelley might be the better fit for your goals. However, if prestige and semi-target status are more important to you, Emory Goizueta is a strong contender.

Guys i see all the votes for emory, but I'm thinking of going to kelley since emory is 30k/yr more expensive, the oxford program doesn't appeal to me, and I don't believe the slight prestige boost of goiziueta is worth missing out on a great social life at IU. Let me know if im making a big mistake please. I have 7 days to decide

If you've made your  decision, you made your decision. Why ask us to change your  mind? And no Goizueta is leagues more prestigious than Kelley but if you can't afford it then it doesn't matter.

Hey, I know that emory is more prestigious but the two years at oxford persuade me to go to kelley. I just want to know if I'm making a big mistake or not. We have the money to cover for either

Bro do NOT go to IU Kelley, at Oxford it's a smaller community but as a current Emory student I see Oxford students well represented at all the top clubs and no one looks down on you as long as you have GPA and internships. Fundamentally you're choosing between a semitarget and a complete nontarget with a 2% chance of being a target and Emory is 10x more prestigious anyway. Change the decision and PM me if ur curious.
