EOR or other programs at EUR/RSM
Hello,
I will be applying to Erasmus University Rotterdam for next fall. I’m trying to grasp which program would best prepare me for high finance roles. Econometrics and Operations Research really intrigues me because of how quantitive it is and the doors it opens, however I’m wondering if it’s still possible to get the roles you can get from the other programs at Erasmus, more traditional Economics and Business Administration.
How does the opportunities after differ between the programs?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
The Econometrics and Operations Research (EOR) program at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR/RSM) is highly quantitative and rigorous, making it an excellent choice for roles in quantitative finance, risk management, and data-driven areas like algorithmic trading or financial engineering. Its strong focus on mathematics, statistics, and programming can open doors to specialized roles that require technical expertise.
On the other hand, more traditional programs like Economics or Business Administration at EUR/RSM are broader in scope. These programs are better suited for roles in investment banking, private equity, consulting, or corporate finance, where a mix of financial knowledge, strategic thinking, and soft skills is valued. They also tend to have a more extensive alumni network in these fields, which can be advantageous for networking and recruitment.

Recommendation:
If you're passionate about quantitative work and enjoy technical challenges, EOR is a fantastic choice. However, if your goal is to maximize opportunities in traditional high finance roles, Economics or Business Administration might provide a more direct path. Consider your career interests and the type of roles you aspire to when making your decision.
