ESCP vs EUR

I am struggling to choose between ESCP bachelor and Erasmus University Rotterdam double bachelor in economics and econometrics. The cost difference doesn’t bother me but want to know what is better for a MIF at a top uni ( HEC, LBS, LSE, Bocconi etc). With ESCP I’ll most likely have higher grades more internships and more free time to practice for the GMAT, however EUR will be more theoretical and more academically rigorous. In addition I speak French but not Dutch so is it easier to get internships at ESCP? Is the academic rigour and additional year ( the double bachelor is 4 yrs) worth it. I want to choose ESCP as the studying in three different countries seems interesting, but I am a hard worker and can push through the double bachelor if necessary. What do masters value more and which programs opens more doors. Please help I need to make this choice final tomorrow.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to consider:

  1. Internship Opportunities: ESCP offers a strong network in Paris and beyond, and being fluent in French will make it easier to secure internships there. ESCP's structure, with its focus on internships and practical exposure, aligns well with your goal of preparing for a top MiF program. The flexibility and time to focus on GMAT prep are also significant advantages.

  2. Academic Rigor: Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is known for its rigorous and theoretical approach, especially with the double bachelor in economics and econometrics. While this could provide a strong quantitative foundation, it may come at the cost of time for internships and GMAT preparation. The additional year in the double bachelor program could also delay your entry into a MiF program.

  3. Master’s Program Preferences: Top MiF programs like HEC, LBS, LSE, and Bocconi value a mix of strong academics, relevant internships, and a high GMAT score. ESCP's structure might better position you to achieve this balance, especially with its international exposure and internship opportunities.

  4. Geographical and Language Considerations: Since you speak French but not Dutch, ESCP offers a clear advantage in terms of networking and internships. The ability to study in three different countries also adds a unique international dimension to your profile, which is highly valued by top MiF programs.

  5. Program Duration: The additional year at EUR might not provide a significant advantage over ESCP, especially if it delays your entry into a MiF program. ESCP's shorter duration allows you to transition to a master’s program sooner, which could be beneficial for your career trajectory.

Recommendation:

Given your goals of pursuing a top MiF program and the importance of internships, GMAT preparation, and international exposure, ESCP seems like the better choice. It aligns well with what top MiF programs value and offers a more balanced approach to academics, internships, and preparation for the next step in your career.

If you speak French then ESCP makes more sense. Don't know what the admission committee wants as candidates for MiF but in terms of reputation both are very good schools.

At the end I'd say choose what you find more interesting. I went with something basic like management for bachelors and wish I'd taken up economics and maths instead to challenge myself more.

Erasmus makes much more sense at bachelor level. You should go for ESCP for masters but not for bachelor, it is simply a cash cow machine to pay for their MiM program!

Academically rigorous means nothing to IB & Consulting. Name brand school with high GPA, excellent internship, leadership socially, likeable personality and lastly top target master will succeed you. Take ESCP, plan carefully for high GPA rather than academic (someone will say you learn nothing at ESCP but that's it), mainly focus more on finding excellent internship(not easy even with ESCP BBA though) and then score high GMAT. ESCP can lead you to LBS MFA or LSE&Bocconi MFin but sorry not HEC MIF or MiM. Only if you are french and want HEC MIF or MiM madly, then EUR(but not guarantee pathway though).

LinkedIn says otherwise. ESCP BiM alumnus place into LBS MFA, LSE MFin&MAF recent years. But well mostly top 1% among cohort, OP should beware about this.

Funniest

MS me all you want little dude. Truth is you went to a mid school escaping competition in your home country and now your insecure ass goes around "advising" people.

I did my bachelors from Edinburgh 3 years ago now. It's best you move on and focus on your path. It's not worth it man

In France, HEC only recruit l'X bachelor for their MiM & MIF, not ESSEC & ESCP bachelor. All UK semi-target has no problem for HEC MiM. However speaking of HEC MIF, only higher semi-target like Durham Bristol etc. with prior stunning finance relate internship has slightly chance of getting in, others are unlikely. If you are from UK semi-target, it's easier to get into LBS MFA, LSE MFin or even Oxford MFE, rather than HEC MIF.
