Finance in the South? How does Houston/Atlanta compare to NYC?

Hello monkeys! Except for prestige and culture, what would you say are the major differences between starting your finance career in the South? Are internal transfers to offices in the Northeast a thing or rather an outlier in the finance world?

Also wondering what schools are targeted by Southern banks and other financial firms. I figure that recruitment from Duke/Vanderbilt/Emory (which to me seem like the only southern "targets") must be less competitive than the Ivy+ ultra competitiveness in the NE?
