Florida MSF Programs

I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on msf programs in florida?

After looking around some I assume that FSU is the main one, but with UF only offering their msf to their undergrad students there aren't many options.

I've looked at some schools such as FIU and all I've really been able to gather is that they take a lot of international students. I'm looking at other schools that would possibly help with breaking into finance in florida.

Agree with above. Florida has a top notch program, but they closed it to non UF people. All the rest are only ideal for the right situation. If you want a good southern program check out the above schools.

I went to Duke and there is certainly the possibility to get back, the issue with FL is that there isn't much of "pure" finance for IB you have Ray Jay, DB in Jax and some MMs and Boutiques in Tampa and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, a few MM funds. corporate finance and commercial banking are a lot better in terms of opportunities, there is Visa, Mastercard, Regions and a bunch of others.

If IBD is your goal then FSU and FIU aren't your best options. Infact, I'd suggest you avoid them if thats your goal (unless you get an IBD internship the summer before). Both schools do have a few placements into corp fin (F1000) though. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

@"pphi" due to my account nit having enough SBs I am not able to personal message you. I recently have been accepted to FSU MSF program. You said that IBD is not a valid option for someone from this program. In your opinion, what is the best alternative? I am shooting to land a job in NYC after graduating next May.

Miami does not offer an MSF program. Besides UF, FSU is the best option. Plus the school is paying for over half of it for me (zero debt). I always knew it would put me at a disadvantage but didn't realize that it would be as harsh as you and @guyfromct make it seem. Any suggestions on what the best option is for me to peruse if NYC is such a stretch?

What does UF stand to gain from closing their program to outsiders? I guess they have more control over their brand since they can monitor a student for 3-4 years before admitting them.

UF has a pretty strict regiment when it comes to their program. Their placements reflect this. I think it just made sense to keep it internal. They never really admitted many outside students so why bother accept the few applications from them.

From what I know about the UF MSF program, they try to attract candidates early and place them in some non BB internship for their junior year, a BB summer internship for the summer between senior and MSF year, resulting in a FT offer post MSF. That's why the take mostly UF kids (easier to plan out internship) and have great placements. You can't just parachute in and get a FT job at Evercore.

Ah, thanks. That makes sense.
