Good NL GPA

I am currently a first-year student at Erasmus University Rotterdam, studying a double bachelor in econometrics and economics. (No clue yet if I want to do a double or single is the difference material?) I was wondering what a good GPA is to work in investment banking/asset management in London. Non-Dutch speaker by the way.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, a "good GPA" for securing roles in investment banking or asset management in London typically aligns with the following:

  1. General GPA Expectations:

    • For competitive roles in London, a GPA equivalent to at least a 3.7/4.0 is often considered strong. Some top-tier firms may expect even higher, especially for front-office roles.
    • UK schools and firms often have a minimum cutoff around a 3.3/4.0, but aiming for 3.7+ is advisable to stand out.
  2. Double vs. Single Bachelor:

    • A double bachelor in econometrics and economics can be a strong differentiator, as it demonstrates quantitative rigor and analytical skills. However, the key is maintaining a high GPA. If the double program risks lowering your GPA significantly, it might be worth considering a single bachelor to ensure academic excellence.
  3. Dutch Grading System:

    • If your GPA is in the Dutch system (out of 10), a score of 8+ is generally considered excellent and competitive for international roles.
  4. Additional Considerations:

    • Beyond GPA, relevant internships, extracurricular activities, and networking are critical for breaking into London’s competitive finance scene.

If you're unsure about the double bachelor, weigh the workload against your ability to maintain a strong GPA and gain relevant experience.
