hbs 2+2 / gsb deferred admission chances?

Looking for insight as to if I have a shot at hbs 2+2.

Senior Mechanical engineer from non target
3.8 GPA with 710 GMAT 47 quant 41 verbal
President of social club and an engineering club
Interned from sophomore year until present at major auto OEM

I have a solid story about why I want MBA that aligns with my resume but other than that, nothing stands out.

What do you guys think? Should I wait a couple of years and apply at m7?

Where are you from? Race? How non-target is this non-target?

Hbs comes to campus once a year or so. No other m7's do. I'm not an academic minority.

can't you get a better GMAT? median for 2+2 is 740 so as a non URM from a non-target you're likely to need at least that... it's different later when work becomes a differentiator, but i feel like GMAT is key for 2+2 if you're a non URM

And I don't say that in way that I don't respect the 710, but you're an engineer, etc....

That was my second time taking it. Probably not going to go for a third. Are you saying I should work hard and wait a couple of years, applying through the traditional process?

From all accounts, applying 2+2 and not getting in will not hurt your chances for admission in 2-4 years when you'll apply as a normal applicant, so I don't think your lowish odds should lead you to not apply. As others mentioned, the 710 will hurt. 710 is going to hurt you in regular admissions at those two, where their average is about 25-30 points higher. As IP said, I think it's even higher for 2+2, so will be tough.

Your EC's don't sound like they'll make up for it either. Then again, I don't remember what people did in college to be interesting, but not an athlete or invovled in running the school (e.g. class president).

Sounds like a long shot to me, but probably can't hurt to apply. HBS does like STEM...
