Help - Part time MSF or MBA later?

I am a RE Asset Management analyst at a boutique firm. My firm is going out of business in January and I want to lateral into IB.

I graduated with 3.0 GPA and a non-finance/accounting major and I just applied to part-time MSF which will be from Jan 15 - Dec 15.

I am thinking about doing part-time MSF which will require me to be in class all day every other Friday and also trying to lateral into IB in 2015. I just passed CAIA 1 and taking the CFA® 1 in December
MBA now is not really an option because I lack work experience. I have to decide soon on MSF

Which is a better option?

1. Try to lateral into IB in 2015 with CFA® 1 and CAIA 1 passed, without MSF and do a 2-year MBA later

2. Try to lateral into IB in 2015 with CFA® 1 and CAIA 1 passed, while enrolled in 1 year part-time MSF(0 career support) and do a kellogg 1-year MBA in the future with a better MSF GPA

Do you think banks will let me attend part time MSF (every other friday) while working as an analyst?

Being in class all day Friday will really hurt your FT working options. I'd either do a FT msf and get it done or a PT program at night.

All else being equal, the MBA is still key. The issue is your GPA is low, you went to a non target and your experience isn't there yet. The msf can help with all of these so getting an msf might be the gateway to a top MBA.

With that said, I'd give networking a good shot. If you can get into a good bank you might not need the msf at all.

I think I will network until like March and if I still don't have an offer I will apply for MSF final rounds and enroll in full-time MSF as a backup plan. Do you know any good full time MSF that places in banking in Chicago other than UIUC?

Thanks,

Thanks,

WUSTL. Other ones you can network your way in with. Have you looked at ND's part time program? It is right in the city and has the best Chicago brand right now.

That'd be the one that will make me take the full Fridays off... Might as well do UIUC... it looks like the best option for IB and another shot at recruiting. Really don't want to go back to the ol campus again cuz I am kind of sick that place but I guess no other options

You could look at Indiana or gtown with their online msf. Would give you optimal flexibility.
