Is IU as good of as a undegrad school for Finance, or should I just go to Bentley
I just got all my college decisions, and I only have my safeties schools to choose from. These schools are IU Kelley direct admit and Bentley. I was looking at Kelley rankings its ranked #9 for finance, but is it actually a good school. I want to work for a BB in the future, I am just skeptical that it's that good for BB. Honestly, Im puzzled on what to do. I really didn't expect to be left in this position and have no Idea what to do.
IU Kelley
Pros- Its ranked #9 for finance on usnews, but I don't know the significance.
Cons- It is EXTREMELY big
-Its in Indiana where a certain race rlly dominates the population (Im from socal so im used to diversity and I would just assume since Im asian it would be pretty awkward and there's probs not many asians who go to IU.)
-weed laws in indiana are mixed.
-No financial aid. some cheap ass scholarship that is worth like 1k
Bentley
Pro- Its in Boston, a lot of my cousins attend boston schools.
-Gave me scholarship money
-I can hang out with ppl from nearby colleges that I didnt get into
-Cons- Its so small IDK if there are alumni connections
- Haven't really heard much about it
I would think IU Kelly is better and probably gives u a pretty good shot at a BB in the Midwest. Truthfully, neither are targets and IU is just barely a semi target. If you are dead set on IB consider transferring to a transfer friendly semi target like UVA, Michigan, USC, or if u can Duke, NYU stern, northwestern, Cornell
Do you think its worth transferring from iu kelley to Vanderbilt
Unless Bentley is significantly cheaper and you want to be in a city over a college town, I don't think this is close. I just did a LinkedIn search and could only find a few students heading to IB at non no-name banks at Bentley.
Indiana has OCR for most banks because of a significant presence in Chicago and NY and sends around 80 kids to IB every year, most doing their Workshop. You can find their website online. Also, they also have another workshop for S&T.
I would recommend visiting because of the difference in size and maybe cultures but both schools are most likely closed because of coronavirus, so probably best you can do is a virtual tour if they have it. Also, I don't think you should be focusing just on BBs. The top kids at my school actually prefer EBs over the non GS/MS BBs and there's some strong MM firms that offer a great experience and pay close to $150k including bonus.

Coming from someone from bentley, it’s possible to get into most banks (some top EBs may be incredibly difficult). We have at least 2 alumni at most reputable banks on the street. IU Kelley def has a larger alumni connection and it would likely be easier to go break in from there.
As far as social scene at Bentley, u hit the main points. It’s a small school that’s not too small. A lot of kids go into Boston on the weekends to hang with other schools.
Bentley is improving, and sending more and more kids each year (around 10 nowadays). Like I said, it’s possible with hard work. So if IU lifestyle does not fit you, you’re not shit out of luck at Bentley.
How difficult would it be to transfer to t10 -30 schools from bentley. I most likely will want to transfer, is there grade inflation or deflation?
A 95 is the cutoff for an A. So the grading scale is a little more rigid than other schools where an A is anything from a 92-94. (Pretty sure those are the norms elsewhere).
As far as actual classes, I think most people do just fine. I wouldn’t say it’s the hardest school to excel academically at.
As far as transferring to t15-t30, it’s possible. Most people stay so there is a small sample size. Also dependent on test scores I’d assume.
Fun facts about Bentley.
African Warlord Charles Taylor is an alum.
The shirts they mail out when you're accepted are pretty nice.
I actually am a junior at Kelley and i heavily considered going to Bentley. Indiana University is extremely big, however Kelley makes it seem much smaller.
“ Its in Indiana where a certain race rlly dominates the population” Who cares about the state? You’ll spend all your time in bloomington which is very diverse, it’s a liberal public school you’re not going to Hick University. Also there are tons of asians at IU and Kelley, all these demographics are also available online. If you’re worried about an all white school Bentley is for rich white kids from Boston.
Weed laws are not a big issue at IU nobody gets in trouble for it.
”Pro- Its in Boston, a lot of my cousins attend boston schools.” Waltham is absolutely not Boston. There is nothing to do in Waltham and you have to travel into the city to have fun on the weekends. Oh and good luck getting into any boston club with a fake id, you’ll be stuck at small dorm parties till you’re 21.
”Gave me scholarship money” Yeah i got scholarship money too and IU was still cheaper since Bentley is 70k a year.
Kelley is absolutely a fantastic program and you will have a blast there. There is so much school pride for IU and specifically Kelley. I can’t even imagine what my life would be like if I was at Bentley in a rich old person town going to a tiny college where i see the same people everyday. Bloomington is one of my favorite places in America it’s an incredible town. I highly recommend you take a tour of IU and don’t let your stereotypes of Indiana and public schools get in the way of a great opportunity.
Just curious what about job placement at Kelley and the difficulty of getting into the IB workshop. Also how hard is it to switch majors?
Getting into the IB workshop is interesting. People act like it is very difficult but the fact is that most people weed themselves out and don't end up applying. If you're committed to getting in, all you need to do is join the investment banking club and get good grades. The investment banking club basically feeds you into the workshop if you stay committed to it. I'm personally not in the workshop because I got distracted with the social life but I still have an internship for middle office at a BB this summer. Once you get into the workshop you're money.
It's super easy to change majors you don't even have to declare your major till junior year and all business majors take essentially the same classes up until second semester junior year.
If you have anymore questions DM me. I know a lot about Bentley too.
Kelley
I also got accepted to UCI, a school that is very close to home. I know I will be much happier at this school. Does anyone know anything about UCI BB placement from what I hear its VERY bad.
UCI has close to 0 OCR and alumni presence on Wall Street.
lol at you even considering bentley vs kelley.
no one knows bentley on wall street
Definitely take Kelley. Benteley is more known as an accounting school than placing people into high finance.
Well Im almost certain I will be attending IU thanks to Edubz, but was wondering if I got off the waitlist for these schools: Case Western, Babson, or Villanova. Should I consider any of the 3 here, or is Kelley still better in terms of IB?
Any update? These 3 schools are good but IU Kelley is your best choice if you pursue IB.
No update on these colleges. However, the more I look into IB the less appealing it becomes. Overall, what would be the best school for me if I wanted to switch from IB to consulting.

286ish applicants this year, IBW hard cap 65, CMBW hard cap 35. The minimum to register for the class is 3.4, not a 3.6. 3.6 is the minimum for the IBW this year. 3.4 is the minimum for the CMBW this year.
