IU Kelley Investment Banking Workshop advice

Hi everyone!

I'm a current senior that has just committed to IU to pursue a degree in Finance. After school, I want to get into IB and eventually transition into the buy-side.

I'm not a DA (since I didn't apply by the priority deadline), and will have to go through the process of applying to Kelley as a Standard admit. However, I'm a hard worker and feel like I can pull off the requirements.

I hope to thrive well enough in college where I can get into the IBW. I know that they look at various aspects of an applicant like Grades, involvement in clubs, networking (sometimes even being part of a frat or business frat can help), and in some scenarios, work experience.

I would love it if some current Kelley students or alumni would be able to tell me any tips, tricks, and advice that can help me get into the workshop. Maybe something that you wish you did/ did better. Or even just about the Kelley experience! I'm a little confused on my path these next 4 years so help a dude out!

Thank you so much and hope you beautiful people have a great day!

from what i've heard, maintain a 3.8+, join finance/investment focused clubs, rush a fraternity with connections to the IBW, network with students/professors already involved with the club, and knock the application out of the park. you’ve mentioned all of these things, and there is not much outside of them that you can do.

since the IBW is extremely selective, and somewhat based on nepotism, it is very possible you get rejected even with these credentials. however, maintaining these efforts over 4 years at IU is sure to land you a phenomenal job after graduation, even if it's not in IB.

hope this helps.

Besides GPA, the #1 most important thing from this list is rushing a frat with connections. If you’re only concerned about the IBW, business frats are your best bet.

J to add to this. Still shoot for the IBW, but there is an increasing amount of students from the other workshops (Capital Markets, IM, RE, etc.) breaking into banking. If you’re in one of the others you’ll have to network a little harder but don’t drive urself crazy thinking it’s IBW or bust

I have a question. Can I apply to 2 workshops in case if I don’t get into IBW or should I just focus on one? For example, can I apply to both IBW & the Commercial Real Estate Workshop
