Ivey HBA non-aeo applicant.

I am a non-aeo student at western university, currently waiting to hear back from Ivey for their HBA program. For those who have been accepted or have gone through the process, how competitive is an 81.4% cumulative 2 yr average, EC's are summer placement at a major canadian bank, tech start up and executive at school club? Any insights would be appreciated.

@BrickSquadMonopoly" I think you and me are in the same predicament. I'm also a non-aeo applicant with a cumulative average of 81.35%, with no word back yet and clearly beginning to get nervous. I have decently strong EC's in my opinion: Varsity Men's Rugby at Western, and a key position at an entrepreneurial startup. I finished business 2257 in the very high 80's, with a perfect participation evaluation from my prof. Does anybody know if your performance and evaluation in 2257 will heavily determine whether or not you're a suitable candidate? Also do you know of any Non-Aeo applicants who have already received acceptances?

Waiting as well with 83.7% average and decent extracurriculars. I believe the biz marks and participation won't be considered too heavily, probably only used to auto-ding anyone with a subpar mark.

I'm in the same boat, 82.5 from western with good EC's but haven't heard back... Getting really nervous now, hoping for a round this Friday maybe?

@Kay135" Congratulations. If you don't mind me asking what were your extra curriculars? Also at what time did they email you? sorry just nervous since I haven't heard back yet.

Lohlife, according to Ivey there is still 25% of the offers for non-aeo's left and we will get a definite answer next week. It seems that everyone who got in today had an 82ish avg. Since we are below that threshold, maybe we will hear back next week?

lohlife not a problem! I got accepted with 82.5, ec's were team captain, mentor and startup efforts with an entepeneurial venture. I think I had a strong interview and a strong participation mark so I feel like that probably contributed

to those who haven't been accepted yet, what is the initial of your last name and did you take intercession? I notice a lot of people accepted today have last name in the K region.

Mine starts with Z and I haven't heard back. Avg is well above 82% and I believe my ECs to be strong. So I'm theorizing they may be reviewing applications in alphabetic order.

Anybody hear back today? I have zero idea whats going on, one of my friends received an acceptance on Friday he had an 81.6% avg, very average EC's (even he said so), and a 80% in 2257 with 7.5 participation mark. I think the last round of acceptances are probably going out this Friday? Anyone have any thoughts or heard anything starting to give up hope.

I got accepted this morning at 11pm today!! A few of my friends got accepted today too, wish you guys all luck and I'll hopefully see you in September :) !!!

At this point, I'm fairly certain they are reviewing the non-aeo application in alphabetic order.

A bunch of people with "K" as their initial got in on friday (twitter search "ivey hba") A girl with the initial "N" got in today. Lohlife also got in today and his last name initials is "L" (you should take your privacy a bit more seriously)

abcdefghij K LmN....

Can anybody already accepted contradict this theory?

I think for the most part your theory holds up, however a girl I knew got in on friday with her last name starting with "O".

Word on the street is by the end of the week we will get a definite answer, and a "handful" of spots will be given out. Which I assume is somewhere between 0 - 5. Very unlikely that I'll get an acceptance. Gonna do course selection.

I am about to be entering my second year at Schulich school of business, but am starting to have a few doubts about whether I'll be able to attain my investment banking ambitions here. My goal is to break into Wall street... I'm curious about how many second year students get accepted into Ivey for third year, and if the fact that I am already enrolled in a b-school will hinder/help my http://chances.My grades/clubs/work experience are as follows:

-About 75% average first year (fucked up terribly in my electives and playing on the varsity basketball team for first semester definitely did not help out my grades), but I am pretty confident I can bring that up to about an 80 this year.

  • Currently working as an underwriter assistant (full-time) at Chubb Insurance on a summer contract

-Was on the York Finance Club in first year. Plan on becoming an executive of the club this year and joining the York Investment Fund

-Also I have been trading equities (planning on dabbling with other asset classes soon hopefully) for about 8 months now. Also have some experience creating DCF models/fair valuations for mega cap companies, forecasting topline growth, and using CAPM to discount future cash flows, etc.. Generally just have an intense passion for how markets work and corporate finance in general. Will including these kind of things help boast my application??

Also if someone could let me know what the application entails, that would be awesome!

Thanks

Vascris- I would say that you are in an okay position in terms of your interests and the quality of your application. I would say that Ivey generally tends to be a little selective on the transfer that they bring in, so I would recommend you bumping your average a little higher in second year. I can promise you that it will make up for any ECs you need to sacrifice to get it done.

Like stated before, your ECs are good but your average is a little on the low side. The average in my year for the non-aeo students was around 84%. That being said, I know a few people that got in with 80 or even a 79.
