Letters of Rec?

2nd year investment banking analyst here, thinking of applying to top MBA programs this upcoming cycle. In true IB fashion, I am not sure whether or not my MD would write me a good enough letter of rec to get into a top program - we work together often but don't have quite a chummy relationship. I would say I am an average analyst at a top firm. What are your thoughts and experiences on getting letters of rec from managers you are not particularly close to?
