MBA and Private Equity
I have 3 years of PE experience AND 2 years of IB. In PE I only did add-ons ranging from $10mm to $90mm as my firm was out of money (debt funded add ons). Given fundraising challenges and market dynamics, I could only find a job in large cap tech Corp Dev in the same city I was in (think Meta, Microsoft). Most of the deals I do are longer term bets vs big cap M&A. I am realizing I don’t like it as much as PE, but still facing challenges recruiting back to PE 1 year in. Would a H/S/W MBA help? I’d ideally like to stay in the city I’m currently in post MBA.
What was the caliber of your IB and PE firms? What tier is your city?
I was at a middle market investment bank. The PE firm had around $600mm in its fund 4. It’s a tier 1 city.
I’m in the exact same boat as OP. My background is BB and UMM. My PE shop is known to place well for bschool.
I would think it would definitely get you additional looks, but honestly, I would be surprised if it provided anything you couldn't do yourself by talking to headhunters.
I don't think PE job prospects are that much better in Business Schools if your sole goal is to return to PE
