MBA after PhD in Management and 2 Years MBB
Hey all,
My profile: - PhD in management top 50 school - 2 years consulting MBB - 28 years old
Company offers partially funded MBA's after 2 years. The question I currently have is "how many degrees should someone have?" and "will an MBA unbalance or benefit my career?" The aim would be to attend M7/M10 university.
I know a couple guys with similar profiles to yours who went into HBS and GSB for their MBAs. They had fun, so might as well take your employer up on their offer.
obviously the alumni network will kick serious butt from your MBA but overall it appears Very confusing. what could you explain that is different from PhD management (not STEM or functional) to the MBA you want to work on now?
it seems like you've accomplished alot already. Why would you get an MBA? Just because your employer is paying for it? I (along with some adcoms) might make the argument that since you have a PhD in management you might be wasting your time, but if you're bored and have nothing better to do why not?
Totally agree that it may seem confusing
My main take would be that I was a science major in undergrad and in my PhD I did something related to that (and less to management overall), thus missing the holistic picture of management.
Is GSB or HBS actually a feasible option given my background?
PhD in business, often include the first year of the MBA program. If you didn't do that, that's just hard to explain
In the U.S. probably, but not in Europe...more typical data collection/social science courses :/
Aside from fun and network, is there any other tangible benefit that an MBA may bring (e.g. exit opportunities etc.)?
You can do an internship in between the two years and see another industry.

as it is a sponsored MBA, internship would not be possible.
Now looked at MBA's with shorter duration such as Columbia J-Term, Kellog one year or INSEAD.
Particularly in the U.S., how is a PhD (in Management) perceived in comparison to an MBA? Is an MBA still necessary in the long run?
