Just noticed this on the Ross School of Business website. 10 month program for non-business students with little to no work experience. Application should be up August 1, 2013 and tuition is $41,000 In-State / $46,000 Out-of-State.
Note: "The Ross Master of Management is offered as a full-time, July-start, cohort program. Applicants must demonstrate an aptitude and readiness for graduate work in a general management business program. We welcome strong applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited university or college. The degree must be in a field other than business, including liberal arts, social sciences, physical sciences, and engineering. We do not accept business minors. Since part of business education is oriented to quantitative fields, we do require completion of one college level (pre-calculus) math course."

Yeah. I heard they were supposed to be next on the MSF list, but this surprised me. They will now compete with Duke, ND, Northwestern (whenever they open the degree up), etc. Very nice entrant into the specialized space.
Probably went this way instead of MSF as it evenly spreads the additional weight across all MBA professors and they can ramp the class size up more than with an MSF.
It's essentially the first year of a MBA program. I'd be interested in knowing how many MBA classes one could have waived after completing this degree. If it doesn't add up, then it may come off as just an easy way in for people who forgot to major in business during undergrad but can't get into the MBA program.
It's aimed at different candidates than the MBA since it's targeted at those with limited or no work experience. Not sure if they will allow candidates to later complete an MBA in 1 year like the Northwestern program or Vanderbilt MSF allow. Really, it's just a nice revenue generator for the school and will compete with similar programs like those ANT mentioned above.
Disclaimer: I'm not eligible for nor interested in this program but figured it would be good for some monkeys on here to consider.
In other words, "It's a program for the people who can't get into the MBA program." That's exactly what I said, lol...It's not "targeted at a different candidate." Look around. People without work experience are applying to MBA programs left and right. When they can't get in, they'' go to a program like this one.
People without work experience shouldn't be getting an MBA, hence "different candidate." Sure some top schools accept a few students without experience but they'd get a better benefit from the MBA if they had prior experience to build off of. Agree to disagree.
The only thing that's different about them is that they were/would be rejected from the program that they really want to get into: the MBA.. "Different candidate" is just a rationalization/marketing ploy to avoid pointing out that they're the losers.

Ummm no. Those who go for MiM programs are not trying to apply for MBAs. They are different things and for different candidates. A MiM will help someone who doesn't have business experience. An MBA will help someone change careers who does have experience.
Not all specialized masters students get an MBA and not all specialized masters students have no experience.
This program also limits work experience so it isn't a second hand MBA in any sense of the word.
I'm wondering how these master's compete with European ones for non-American students. A MiM in Europe (HEC, Cambridge, LSE, LBS) is 30% to 50% cheaper.
I mean if you want to work in Europe or internationally you should absolutely go to those schools. If you want to work in the US they won't help you much.

You have a 2.96/4.5 and only 4 months of experience. So... No. Wait a few years and get some experience, ace the GMAT, and then come back to ask. No one is looking for someone with ~0 work experience.
The only thing you could do is a masters program in Europe. There are also a few programs in the US that offer such programs. Just search for it, there are a bunch of options you have besides the MBA. Otherwise, just work for a couple of years and then apply for the MBA

I applied to all the equivalents at Duke, Michigan, and ND. Didn't receive an interview from Duke, but I don't have an "official" answer yet. I had my interview with ND this morning, and I am yet to hear from Michigan. (I submitted my application late March). 660 GMAT and 3.2 GPA, with one year in commercial real estate. I applied late to all of them. Anyone hear anything from Michigan?
