Notre Dame vs Virginia

Accepted to Mendoza for finance REA and accepted to UVA CAS EA as an Echols scholar (Echols Scholars are granted an exemption from the General Education requirements within the College of Arts & Sciences). Want to get into IB and am aware that Mcintire apps for sophs are around 65%, but also have seen that Mendoza is a higher target for IB than UVA. Which would you both pick (career prep/apps, network, and college life) in that order factored in?

I'm a current UVA student from out of state and didn't even look at ND, so def biased/ignorant, but UVA all the way. I'm sure the real difference between the two in terms of IB/banking placement is negligible if you're a smart, driven person, but if it helps I'm a second year and have accepted an offer at a BB for SA 2025. A bunch of my friends already have offers, too, most of whom got them because they're in finance clubs/business frats or were able to use the UVA network, but moreover because they're smart, hardworking, normal etc etc.

Purely in terms of career prep, if you follow the formula at UVA you'll be set up for success. There are tons of selective finance/consulting clubs/business frats that train you, give you experience, and have heavy alumni presence at most banks/consulting firms (if you want to look any up, good ones to check out would be AIF, MII, AKPsi, VVF, SEED Consulting, and 180 Degrees Consulting).

I would recommend you make the choice about feel and vibe more than career aspirations. At the end of the day, like I said, the difference is going to be negligible, and who cares about such a marginal difference in the context of your entire college experience? Work hard play hard is big here, I love my friends, and I have an internship! Happy ending

Hey, also a second-year Echols here (in-state) who will be studying at McIntire in the fall. Have nothing but positive things to say about UVA. Alumni are very helpful and generally willing to hop on the phone. Personally love the sports scene here, and there are so many things to do in Charlottesville (a really beautiful place). Work hard, play hard comes to mind. A big enough school where everyone can find a niche but small enough where people know each other (which I've come to appreciate). Starting for the incoming class, McIntire will be a three-year program (I think), which will help for IB recruiting. Personally involved in a few commerce-related clubs, and happy to talk more if you want to PM. Would recommend Professor Smith's Finance Academy (see above) and getting involved in Greek Life. Some of these "upper-tier" frats and sororities have crazy IB connections (but you can land an offer regardless).

Lol these second years are funny. I'm about to graduate from McIntire and echo the above. If you play the game the sky is the limit, me and pretty much everyone I know who tried at recruiting was successful, I know tons of people personally heading to PE/BB/EB/MBB/T2. Everyone in the comm school is super tight, I feel like I know 50% of the people in my class at least on a first name basis. UVA, and McIntire specifically, has optimized work hard play hard to a degree that I can't see existing elsewhere.

I have a lot of ties to both schools and feel like you can't make a wrong decision here. 50/50 for me.

Not going to do a long writeup here, but Notre Dame is simply a higher caliber school than UVA, although the difference isn’t huge. That being said, you can break in from either place, and should choose based on culture and where you actually want to go as a result.
