Opinion on BBA EDHEC/ESSEC

Hi everyone, I know that in France bachelor’s degrees are very poorly regarded. However, I have absolutely no intention of working in France. My goal is to pursue a master’s degree at a good British university in order to work in London. Many students who have completed these bachelor’s programs have then gone on to master’s degrees at LSE, LBS, and even Oxford for some, and now have strong careers. Currently, I am studying at a small no name university and the career prospects seem quite unappealing to me. What do you think?

If your ultimate goal is to pursue a master's degree at a top British university and work in London, both EDHEC and ESSEC can serve as solid stepping stones. Here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Reputation of EDHEC and ESSEC:

    • ESSEC is generally regarded as a stronger brand than EDHEC, especially in France and Europe. It has a better reputation for its programs and alumni network, which could give you an edge when applying to top master's programs.
    • EDHEC, while slightly below ESSEC in prestige, still has a solid reputation, particularly for finance-related programs. It is often ranked among the top business schools in Europe.
  2. Pathway to Top UK Universities:

    • Many students from both EDHEC and ESSEC have successfully transitioned to master's programs at LSE, LBS, and Oxbridge. This is a testament to the quality of their undergraduate programs and the recognition they receive internationally.
    • Your ability to leverage the alumni network, internships, and academic performance during your bachelor's will play a significant role in securing a spot at these top institutions.
  3. Career Prospects in London:

    • If you plan to work in London, the bachelor's degree itself will matter less than the master's degree you pursue. Both EDHEC and ESSEC can provide a strong foundation, but your focus should be on excelling academically and gaining relevant internships to strengthen your profile for master's applications.
  4. Language and Networking:

    • While you don't intend to work in France, keep in mind that ESSEC's campus is located outside Paris, which might limit networking opportunities compared to schools with more central locations. EDHEC, on the other hand, has a campus in Lille and Nice, which are also not central hubs but still offer decent access to opportunities.
  5. Final Thoughts:

    • If you have the choice, ESSEC would likely be the better option due to its stronger brand and alumni network. However, EDHEC is still a respectable choice, especially if you perform well and strategically plan your next steps.
    • Moving from a "no-name" university to either of these schools is a significant upgrade and will open doors to better career prospects and master's programs.

Ultimately, your success will depend on how well you leverage the resources and opportunities at these schools. Focus on building a strong academic record, gaining relevant internships, and networking effectively to maximize your chances of landing at a top UK master's program.

Avoid essec and edhec bba. Especially as these are 4 year programs. They give you bachelor + Master year 1, which you think is nice but no, it's useless. For UK masters admissions it's still a bachelor, same as the 3 year one. No advantage. Especially if you're going to spend an insane amount on uk master after.

Dauphine, sorbonne, sciences po etc. are better seen in France

right now i’m in university of montpellier, you’re right, either i’ll try getting into rotterdam/maastricht or a top french uni. if i don’t i’ll just switch to something else. thanks

The only one from private French business school worth doing would be escp which has better reputation in London than essec or edhec plus it's a 3 year program (so like 18k cheaper).

This is only if you don't get into the French unis or other EU ones you mentioned.
