PENN STATE vs MARYLAND???

I'm currently a hs senior deciding between Penn State (Smeal) and University of Maryland (Smith) with the ultimate goal of breaking into ib. I know neither is a "target" but have solid placements into some bb's and mm's

.       PSU:

  • In-state tuition, accepted to Schreyer Honors College
  • three clubs: Nittany Lion Fund (NLF), Leveraged Lion Capital (LLC), Asset Management Group (AMG)
  • The flagship club is NLF, which seems to have insane placements historically but looking for more current data
  • LLC's placements this cycle look out of the roof according to their website
  • AMG seems more s&t/wealth focused so not a lot of interest from me
  • Wall Street Bootcamp seems like an interesting networking opportunity
  • awesome college town and love college football

    UMD:

  • Smith Investment Fund looks really interesting but doesn't seem to have lots of placement into ib
  • Lemma Senbet Fund seems to be helpful for techs/modeling but not a lot of info on placement
  • Wall Street Fellows looks great for networking
  • close to DC, EDM nightlife, not as big college sport spirit

I heard penn state has the better alumni network but maryland has a better brand name. UMD is also ~15k more expensive per year, which isnt a big issue financially for my family but I want best ROI. Looking for insights

Edit: got into cornell off the waitlist, go big red!

Both are non targets so wouldn’t worry too much about the “brand”, as unfortunately neither will give you a big boost. PSU has the better network and regularly sends kids to the street. Can’t say the same for UMD. With in state tuition, this is an easy choice.
