Sauder UBC

I was hoping to go back east, Ivey, Queens, Schulich, or Rotman to do my MBA (already did my CFA) but a really good opportunity at work has come up in our merchant banking division which may delay me in starting my MBA for a year. So I've been considering starting my MBA part-time in January at Sauder, and then in a year or so swithching to the full time schedule and finishing it off. I wanted to know how the recruiting is for sauder, and if there are any good sauder alumni on wall street, or bay street. I've done quite a bit of research on the school, but im hoping for some 'word on the street'

Why sauder? Queen's, Rotman, Schulich and Ivey are very well regarded all over Canada.

In rankings, Queen's, Rotman and Schulich take the top spots. Sauder is well regarded, but not as much as the other schools.

I'm just a university student though - I'm sure other people have some actual advice, haha.

Werz that? Jk, but seriously I've heard from a quite a few people in Canada that even U of C has better placement than Sauder. Merchant banking sounds like a pretty good gig though... Check out Linkedin for alumni.

thanks for the comments, yeah the merchant banking is a very good, and cushy gig, but this is a small regional bank i know that i will be pretty bored in a matter of time so i dont want to give up on the MBA. I feared that UBC's placement in finance was pretty weak, i did contact them about details of an investment banking mentorship they started a couple of years ago, but havent heard back.

I should have clarified that im from BC thats why i would have to go to Sauder if i decide to stay at my current employer.

I'm a McGill undergrad and let me just add that Ivey is probably tops with Rotman and York as the next tier. Everyone else is not as great. McGill with the edge over Sauder because of its old name.

CDN B-Schools are going to land you in Canada but their lack of name (aside from Ivey) will hurt you if you choose to go elsewhere. So the US school is worth it if you want to work around the world.

I'm currently at Sauder as an undergrad and I just accepted an offer from one of the Big 6 investment banks here in Vancouver. The program has vastly improved since I've started here but i'll have to agree, its still difficult if you want to go anywhere else outside of Canada. So I'd say it's pretty comparable with some of the other Cdn schools for ibanking but is definitely below ivey and schullich and rotman
