Should I apply to schools in Canada for IB

I'm from 🇨🇭and i'm thinking of doing ib in london or canada but I don't like the us and I think I would not fit well there. One of my friends says I should go to SMU in dfw but I don't think it's a good idea.

SMU sure is oddly high by hires, but it doesn't specify where. It's not all NYC and SF, in fact a very small amount. I assume smaller offices in smaller cities.

I say take your chances in the best schools you can. Your EC's are OK/good, the working 32 hours a week is very exceptional and the best part of your application. It explains why your grades are a bit lower. Colleges love to see this kind of stuff and reward you heavily for it, but you have to tie it into your story. It has to be a big part of your story. Were you working to support family? Or what was the reason?

How is your SAT? You should aim for schools like UNC, some of the UC's, are you in-state for any good schools like UMich or UVA? Aim as high as you can, I'm sure you'll get into SMU for RD so no worries there. Shoot your shot and see what happens.

Yeah man def aim higher. I think you're in the caliber for UNC, UVA maybe, UT Austin if you're in-state but probs not out of state, USC maybe. Tell a good story on your essays with your ECs and working 32 hours/week story, and you can have a very good shot at a lot of these places. SMU is a last resort.

I got a 1480 on my SATs, I go to UVA now (didn't apply many places). got in EA. not doing IB recruiting, but most my friends who did got offers. around 30% at mm and 70% at BB or EB. personally know a few at hf/pe and gs/ms/jpm. love it here, great people.

other schools i'd recommend for finance: gtown, umich, ut, cornell. I've heard wake is solid (but I know a kid who transferred here for better IB recruiting), duke if you can get in. ivies ofc. you can probably get into those with 1480 and can get an IB job. on the other hand i've never worked with a kid from smu and don't know a single kid there. worked with kids from uva (another dude), upenn, cmu, hopkins, stanford at summer internship. also you can do whatever as backup. you're not stuck with b4 audit or some 60k a year in dallas job if you mess up ib. the two people I know who didn't get offers (not the smartest, just rich) are doing consulting recruiting and will end up making 90k in nyc or dc. f500 analyst or whatever is such a cakewalk here. either way not IB money but less hours and very comfortable lifestyle. exit in 2 years making ib money eventually.

texas has less competition overall. tbh if you just want to be in texas, UT is the best choice by far. Rice after that, then SMU. HUGE drop off between UT/Rice and SMU. Although not sure how many Rice kids go IB. Texas offices is probably still good for southern schools like emory, vandy, uva, others. Plus more options if IB recruiting doesn't go through.

im not in NYC. still in college.
