SMU Cox MSF as a way to pivot Into corporate finance roles in the south. Is it doable?
I basically have 2 years of work ex in business development and a few internships at fortune 500s. Was wondering if the corporate finance route is still doable as an international student after the SMU MSF. How good is the school? The program is STEM designated hence allows me to work in the US for atleast 3 years.

If so, bro, love the tenacity but you are up a creek without a paddle here. You need to get into a target to really have a chance internationally. That’s going to be the advice for you no matter how many threads you make.
Agree. Amazon financial analyst from random 1-year masters as an international... it's just not happening with your current work experience, man.
Look into Princeton MSF. That is one of the few top US masters programs and attracts/places a lot of international students. You need a 2 year program like this so you can have a full length US summer internship and not just 2 semesters of courses.
In person top US (masters/top 15 MBA) or EU masters are the only paths if you're set on school.
What kind of corporate finance roles are you talking about? Tbh MSF is not great at all and I'm not seeing many international masters around me getting a job this year in the US. I'd go to a more reputable school internationally so that your degree is more marketable in your home country if you cannot find a job here
Well in my country they don't really know any university apart from the top 10 on the ft mba rankings. So SMU is a bad school for an Mfin? What international master's are you talking about that are not getting jobs in the US? Is the market currently that bad?
By corp fin roles I mean the FP&A roles at the ft500s or any graduate level roles at the big4 in consulting, advisory etc.
Something like the financial analyst position at Amazon. I know 2 internationals who got this job after the MSF
I know plenty of people who worked in business development and went to M7 schools. My advice is to stay at your job, get a couple of promotions, and then apply for a T15 MBA. Doing a MSF is a waste of time and money for someone who already has two years of work experience. The MSF is geared towards people who just graduated and have zero work experience. Also, unless you tell us your whole profile, we can't determine whether you have a chance at the top MBAs.
I have two years of work ex but most of them are internships tbh and I have worked at only one startup in BD for a year. I graduated from Bocconi with a shit gpa, did 4 internships at ft500s in diverse fields ranging from analytics to finance. I am currently interning at LVMH in the area of marketing analytics. Idk but honestly I know a lot of internationals who have pretty good jobs coming out of mid tier or third tier american master's in business analytics and finance. I hardly know anyone from my country who didn't have 5 years of work ex before applying to the MSF programs. Granted they got analyst level roles ans had to start in the US but still a 100k for most of these guys coming out of UTAustin or even a place like Purdue or Fordham was a 100 Times better than their home country where everyone has a cfa and makes 1/3rd of that. Tbh I am doing the online master's in management at UIUC because it is cheap and can help me pull up my grades. I know a girl who got rejected by UTAustin and imperial last year due to bad grades in her undergrad and now has offers from both plus a few other good schools after she finished the UIUC master's. Unfortunately my entire network is in Europe and my country doesn't really have a market for luxury. I do have a few impressive names on my CV though.
My offers this year are Cass, SMU, Indiana, UCD, Erasmus University Rotterdam, FSFM frankfurt and as I mentioned, I am not interested in I banking but everyone here is giving me advice related to MBB and Bulge brackets. I am interested in neither and idk why people on the thread are saying that it's tough to break into corp fin, consulting or advisory roles at the Big 4 when many internationals i know did so.
