SMU Cox Vs UMich LSA
I’m currently a rising senior in HS weighing my current college options. I want power 5 football, decent academics, greek life, and good IB placement. I’m deciding if I should apply early decision (binding) to either UMich LSA (not sure I can get into Ross direct) or SMU Cox. Looking for any good feedback and recommendations
Michigan overall probably has more national rep. Cox really only places well if you are in Alts, which has gotten considerably more selective and harder to get into in the recent years. If you come from wealth, you’ll fit right into SMU and be completely fine socially, but if your family is middle class, you may struggle to adjust. (As a guy who came from an upper middle class family, I never felt so poor and out of place at that university). For Michigan, I don’t know much about LSA, but if you could switch into Ross, that may be a better route for you for overall brand name. I don’t have a lot of insight into clubs and orgs there, but I’m well aware it’s a highly ranked business school.

Ultimately, your decision should align with your career goals and the type of college experience you want. If you’re leaning towards IB in NYC or other major hubs, Michigan might have the edge. If you’re targeting Texas or want a more intimate setting, SMU Cox could be the way to go.
