Stalla CFA Review
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Stalla's CFA exam prep program. Is it worth the ~$1500?
For that matter, are there any other CFA prep outfits that offer better products?
For those interested, you can find more details at www.stalla.com
i was 3/3 with the stalla live class.
this was a couple years ago but i believe they are quite comprehensive. you could also look into schweser, 7city but ultimately it comes down to the time you put in. you can get there with any of the big providers/
I liked Schweser (3/3). I never took a class; just read the notes.
As long as you put due time into preparation, you may be fine without anything but original CFAI materials. Actually, at least from my personal experience, the original books are more than enough - I didn't use any additional sources for either of the levels.
I never opened the original CFAI materials because they are awful. I used Schweiser books and the Stalla passmaster. I have the schweiser in pdf format
How could you know the original materials "were awful" if you never opened them? Besides, considering that now, original books are included in the exam price (it wasn't the case a few years ago), it makes even more sense not to buy additional stuff.
I did open them. I probably read maybe one or two chapters, but they are really wordy and too much info for something simple. Schweiser is well worth the investment.
Schweser
The materials you get from CFA Institute are waaaaay too detailed for what you actually get on the exam. I walked into Lvl 1 nervous as hell because I couldn't remember the formula to calculate kurtosis. There were no calculations, you just had to understand it conceptually. Classes are nice if you really don't understand the material, but the only way to prep for the test is doing practice problems, which you don't do enough of. Classes are overpriced.
The most basic Schweser pack gives you everything you need to know; the practice questions are much, much more in line with what you see on the exam. The bare bones package gives you the review books (core product) and 3 practice exams....that should get you well prepared, and depending on your educational background, will have you ready in 1-2 mos.
Im using the orignal books and its not awful at all. Its doable. The only sections that are really boring are ethics and financial statement analysis.
All I used was analystnotes.com. It is a lot cheaper than anything else out there and has just as good quality. I sat and passed L1 in December.
