Study for GMAT/GRE within a month?
Hey everyone, I very recently decided to pursue grad school abroad in Belgium for the upcoming academic year and was wondering if it's possible to study for either the GMAT or GRE exam within a month's time. The application is due on March 1 and am trying to decide which one to take and if it's doable to okay on it without an insane amount of studying. The school's requirements are a minimum of 49 on the quantitative part and an overall score of 600 for the GMAT. The school's requirements are a minimum of 160 on quantitative reasoning and 152 on verbal reasoning.
I am a finance major right now and I'm planning to get a master's in business economics. Are those scores difficult to achieve and which test do you think would be easier? Anyone's $0.02 would be greatly appreciated!
600 seems achievable, but the program sounds questionable to have a bar so low. I like that the GRE lets you use a calculator, while the GMAT doesn't.
Okay thank you, yeah it's an easier school to get in for Americans because most people that go are from Belgium. They have a high acceptance rate but still are ranked number one in the country
Oh ok nice
Can only speak to the GMAT, but...I'd wager you have a minimal shot at a 49 on the Quant part unless you walked out of the SAT with an 750+ and no prep. A 600 total isn't crazy, but if that 49Q is firm, that's a tough score for anyone to achieve (at least upper quartile). For context, if you got a 25 on Verbal, you'd still have a 600+ with a 49Q.
Would argue you could luck your way into a 49V easier than the Q
If you were unemployed and worked every day then took the exam, it might be possible given some level of aptitude. If you have a job, I'd wait for next year.
That's irrelevant, business schools grant more importance to the Quant than Verbal
You would have to be naturally good to great analytically to get 49 in Q in one month. Comparatively, a overall 600 is very achievable, so the gating item will be the Q score for sure.
GMAT - if you are good in quant.
GRE - if you are good in verbal.
But the requirement does raise a lot of questions. 49 min with 600 overall? A lot of people scoring 700+ don’t even score 49. I wonder if its a typo and 39 is the min.
I did check gre to GMAT on ets website 160 on quant is approx 41 on gmat. So i do think they meant 39.
Hey thank you, hope you're right on it being a typo. will try to confirm with the school
Probably a good idea to take an Official Mock after getting a bit familiar with the course material and structure of the exam. If you are only 50 or so points away, I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a 550 to 600 jump in a few weeks with dedicated prep.
