UCI MSF

Hey WSO!

UCI recently started a Masters of Science in Finance last year and I was wondering how big of a risk it would be to attend? They have no placement data yet as their inaugural class does not graduate until spring this year.

Using common sense, I believe it is extremely risky to pay x amount of dollars for a degree at a program that is not established and has no published placement data. On the other hand, their law school was in a similar situation several years ago and in a short amount of time they have made it to rank #21. Part of me wants to be optimistic and trust in UCI's ability to foster a reputable program in a short amount of time, however, I am just not sure they would be worth it.

Anyone? I feel like they're too new to be worth applying so I will probably not send them an application. Just wanted to get additional opinions.

I was applying to the school but decided to go with another. Being a new school and non-Target it's pretty much up to you to hustle and make the most out of it. If you look at linkedin most students seem asian/international. It is at an okay location though and they give $10k minimum scholarship (for this year at least) When you say risk, you gotta think about the alternatives (what are your options). You gotta know what's best for you. It will definitely not place you into high finance positions, but depending on how much you do on your own anything is possible.
