UK semi or Spain target

Hello, im currently a highschool student looking to break into MBB consulting / BB IB in Europe possibly in London. As mentioned by the title I've applied to semi-targets in the UK, think like Bristol/King's for both finance and economics and also to Spanish targets think like. I was just wandering what you guys would pick in my shoes.

To help you guys a bit. the programs for the UK like I mentioned are either finance or economics at semis.  They cost in between 20/30k for 3 yrs. In Spain the progams at targets and are either 20 or 35k for 4-5  years .

Thanks alot.

I can't tell you what to do, but what I can tell you is that there are a fair few Nottingham & Durham alumni at Bain London (myself included). I think some of us are experienced hires though, but nevertheless it's not just Oxbridge / LSE (though this is the majority).

On the other hand, I don't actually know any spaniards or people with Spanish unis here (disclaimer: I obviously don't know everyone) target or otherwise. Looking at LinkedIn, there are ~170 Durham/Notts alumns at MBB london right now (~100 for D, and ~70 for N), while barely ~30 from a combined UC3M / UPF / UAB / UB.

Thanks alot for ur awnser. Yes I saw those figures but I feel like its exponentially harder to get into MBB worldwide from a semi-target cuz for instance a spanish target had like 233 alumni who worked in MBB and a semi-target like 140 and the comp from UK unis is larger. Although that might be because the spanish one is just for business so the ratio of people wanting to go to consulting and the guys who got in might be better for the UK semi (Also the course I got into is finance and its worse than econ to get into IB and the entry requirements give the course a bad rep cuz its low).

Just to make sure we are using the same base data, I added the links.

Using the top 10 Spanish schools from here (link), current people at MBB in the UK is a grand total of ~90 (link), while alumni of these same 10 schools number ~220 (linkstill in the UK)

  • I didn't find ICADE as a school choice, so I added Comillas Pontifical University (both options given by LinkedIn); seems you cannot add ICADE as a university choice either in your experience, so Comillas Pontifical it is
  • Looking only at UK-based LinkedIn registered people who either currently work at MBB or have worked at MBB (regardless of where that last one took place, i.e., could have been Spain and they later moved to London for a different job)

MBB alumni in the UK from Durham and Notts are a combined ~430 (230 for Durham [link] and 200 from Notts [link]). Current Durham are still ~100 (link) and Notts is still ~70 (link)

  • Haven't included people from the respective business schools, only those listing University of Durham or University of Nottingham, as their alma mater; adding the Business Schools barely changes the final result

I am not sure how you're selecting / counting, but these are the numbers I'm getting. Overall, still looks like for the UK MBBs, you'd be better off at these two "semi targets". If you want to do something else, that is your call.

Love this comment. Consultancy at its best: General information that seems superior by the mere act of enhancing its presentation (bolt, italic, grammar, etc.).

Heck, I'd even pay $2 for the value of this comment. Thx Bain & Company.

The thing is people here in Spain don't usually apply to London for consulting, that's more of an IB thing. ICADE, ESADE, cunef, IE, UC3M... are targets in Spain (specially ICADE), but mainly for the Madrid office, they're also the best spanish unis if you want to work in london, and some top students do, but it's not that common.

But if you are not spanish i'd say it doesn't make much sense to study here, as native level spanish is kind of a must and if you want to work in london you'll probably have more opportunities studying in the UK.
