Villanova MSF 2013-2014
Hey folks, so I recently accepted into the Villanova MSF program and I have a few general questions that I hope you guys can help me with:
1) I have lived in Texas for the past 15 years so I am not very familiar with the area. What are some apartment complexes within 5 miles of the school?
2) Should I bring my car? I don't remember the last time that I did not have access to a car, so I really hope that it is a good idea for me to bring mine. Do the apartment complexes have free parking?
3) I graduated in 2011 from Texas A&M with a BBA in Finance. After that, I took a detour in life and became a tennis coach. Now I want to get into the finance industry. What can I do until school starts (May) to improve my technical skills? All I have been doing so far is going over my finance textbooks.
4) How do I approach doing an internship while in school? The school's career website?
5) I want to get into banking, but I'm not sure I can handle the workload that investment banking entails. I have a good understanding of math and excel. What other careers in finance should I strive for?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Is anyone looking for a roommate starting this summer?
Congrats. Would you mind sharing stats? GPA/GMAT/ECs etc ( I'm waiting to hear back from Nova)

he's got a website for it also, check his sig for it.
2) Yes, if you have a car bring it. I remember talking to adcom back when I was applying and they said the majority of people bring their car because public transport can be inconvenient, especially since you are probably going to be living off campus.
I received your PM, which I will reply to, but I will answer your questions publicly in case anyone else needs the advice.
1) Radnor House, Radcliff House, Rosemont Plaza, Home Properties of Bryn Mawr. There are some others, but those are the main ones. I do encourage students to think about living in Philadelphia. The mainline is a lot of fun, but it gets kind of boring. Villanova is in a really nice township, but it isn't an urban campus.
2) If you live near campus, sure, bring your car. You can get most places with public transportation though. If you live in the city, leave the car home.
3) I would just study some basic finance theory, some valuation. Know accounting basics. Read the WSJ and Economist. Etc. You will be fine.
4)If you want to do an internship you should start emailing local firms. There is a thread on WSO with all the local area banks, PE shops, etc. Some stuff is posted on the career site. I strongly encourage you to get on GoNova and make sure your profile is filled out so you can hit the ground running.
5) Big 4 valuation, F500 FLDP's, Bank Examiner, etc. Tons of good business careers to get into if you want.
Thanks a lot everyone. Great help. What is the title of the tread that has the local banks info? Those are great options, any others in banking that are NOT investment banking?
.
Not a huge FB user, but is there a Villanova page for the '14 class yet? If not I'll create one...
