WASHU for IB after turning down NU and NYU

Waiting for my team's turn at a soccer game and this came to my mind,

-Is Washu good for ib and what should I do? Seen very mixed things with some calling it shit while some say it's on the up and getting to the point where it's nearing a target.

-I turned down NU and NYU for Washu because of the 300k difference in money so I am still kinda mad about that ngl but I just couldn't have turned down a full ride.

-WUIB-how hard is it to get in and what should I do for it and what other frats or clubs are good?

-my mom is half Spanish (Spain) and ofc ima use the diversity method so does this make a big difference in how recruiting will go/trajectory?

-also saw someone recommending networking the summer before freshman year, I personally think this is lowkey kinda weird but is this something to do?

Advice in general?

washu is a good place to be and a great place to recruit of due to your diversity. Any chicago or NYC bank will give you the looks. Sent 7 to GS last year so thats that.

A lot of posts about WashU banking numbers. This will help: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/school/washu-a-target-school-now

WUIB is competitive but not like exclusive to get into. They will absolutely cut people who did not prep but if you do the prep, speak with exec members, and actually show you’re hungry to grind, you’ll be ok. You definitely should try to join though, like 90% of offers go through the group.

Frats won’t help you but business frats might be helpful to a certain extent - PGN/DSP are the top ones for sure. DSP has an edge in banking and PGN has an edge in consulting/non banking finance areas (PE/VC/AM/HF/CB/RE)

Feel free to dm with more questions

Good school. Business frats can help and WUIB is not hard at all to get into as long as you aren’t a weirdo and you actually want ib which is clearly the case here. Diversity(even tho it is a reach here) will make your life a lot easier. Make sure to go for the programs. 0 reason you shouldn’t get an offer especially with your 1/4th Hispanic.

WUIB is within reach - study the materials that they give you and have good reasons for IB and they will let you in. Don’t network before freshman year it’s a bad look for you and the school. Instead focus your attention on reading finance books, finding relevant internship experience (small PE firms, corpdev) and start to think about banking once you start sophomore year. Definitely rush bfrats - DSP has the best network by far for banking and consulting.

Washu is definitely not a target, but I’d say it’s a growing school in terms of banking placement. I believe this last recruiting process saw 6-7 kids going to GS classic groups and many others going to gugg and hl type places. WUIB’s process is pretty simple, but they do make cuts to kids that are clearly unprepared / unpolished. The social and bfrats aren’t too useful to recruiting, but it does help knowing upperclassmen that are in clubs like WUIB and that have gone through the recruiting process. Alumni are also pretty dedicated to getting more Washu kids into the industry, and most are very down to earth and willing to help. Would also not network before freshman year as the alumni network is still decently small and you don’t want to reach out to folks when you’re unpolished and make a bad impression. At the end of the day, you made the correct choice in terms of how much money you’re saving.

Tbh sounds great from everything so far. Seems pretty simple. Get easy grades in Olin. Get into WUIB which seems as if it’s mine to lose(I was originally worried because I thought it would be like IU IBW but nah) and then just network and apply with technicals. Will rush as well. Would you say more people go for NYC or Chicago or do people recruit for both? Thank you

I would have turned down the full ride for NYU.
